Final Report: Part 1 Outline
Directions: For Part 1, you are required to write a complete introductory paragraph using the outline below. For the second, third, and fourth paragraphs, you need to write complete sentences that show the basic outline for the essay. By completing this outline, you will have a guide to refer to when finalizing your report.
Introductory Paragraph (Identify the thesis statement and write a complete paragraph explaining the topic in general.)
Thesis Sentence: When it comes to recycling it can be difficult however there are some steps we can follow and systems that we can put in place to make the process of recycling easier.
Paragraph: If you have every been to Europe or traveled outside of the United States for that matter it is very evident that they do several things much different than we do. This is not to say that there way is better (although some may argue that), it is just done in a different manner. One of those things is recycling. Counties like Germany have a very intricate recycling system that they take very seriously. Making changes take times and although there are many states that encourage recycling many times all trash and recycle items end up in the same dump. Change has to start at the top, but we can start in our immediate area now. When it comes to recycling it can be difficult however there are some steps we can follow and systems that we can put in place to make the process of recycling easier.
Paragraph 2: Position (Write a topic sentence that supports your thesis and provides a transition between the paragraphs. Then, record at least three details that provide support for the topic sentence.)
Topic Sentence: One of the first steps to take when it comes to recycling it to know what it recyclable
Detail A: Distinguishing between trash and Recycle items
Detail B: How to recycle
Detail C: The harm not recycling can do to the environment.
Paragraph 3: Opposition (To present a fair argument you need to research and outline some of the common positions that dispute your position ( i.e. if you are for chocolate for your position, here you would be writing why chocolate is bad). Write a topic sentence that supports your thesis and provides a transition between the paragraphs. Then, record at least three details that provide support for the topic sentence.)
Topic Sentence: Some may think that recycling does not matter and it is just a waste of time, however research has show that that is simply not true
Detail A: Recycling takes energy
Detail B: Recycling can lead to pollution
Detail C: Recycling is costly
Paragraph 4: Rebuttal (In the final paragraph you will make a case as to why your position is correct versus the opposing position. Essentially, you will defend your side of the argument using examples and evidence to discount the opposition. Write a topic sentence that supports your thesis and provides a transition between the paragraphs. Then, record at least three details that provide support for the topic sentence.)
Topic Sentence: When it comes to recycling it is plan and easy to see that the arguments against it are just the lazy way out. The fact remains that recycling is better than choosing not to.
Detail A: Recycling Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators
Detail B: Recycling Prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials
Detail C: Helps create jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries in the United States
Conclusion: (Record a concluding sentence below. This should be your thesis restated in different words.)
Concluding Sentence: While it might be faster to not recycle and it seems like it might be more of a hassle to take the time to separate trash from recycling, it is something that not only we will benefit from but out wonderful planet will as well.
