Explain how culture might impact the care of patients who present with a disorder

Autoimmune Disease ( Type 1 diabetes)

Application: Protocol for Diagnosis, Management, and Follow-Up Care of Disorders

As pediatric patients grow from infancy to adolescence, there are many common body system disorders that may potentially present. As an advanced practice nurse caring for these patients, you must understand the pathophysiology and epidemiology of these disorders as this will help you to recognize symptoms and select appropriate assessment and treatment options. In this Assignment, you prepare for your role in clinical settings as you design a protocol for the diagnosis, management, and follow-up care for a common body system disorder.

To prepare:

•Reflect on the body system disorder that you selected (Autoimmune Disease ( Type 1 diabetes))

•Think about the pathophysiology and epidemiology of the disorder.

•Consider a protocol for the diagnosis, management, and follow-up care of the disorder you selected.

•Think about how culture might impact the care of patients who present with this disorder.

To complete:

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

•Explain the disorder you selected, including its pathophysiology and epidemiology.

•Explain a protocol for the diagnosis, management, and follow-up care of this disorder as a provider .

•Explain how culture might impact the care of patients who present with the disorder you selected.

What are the steps involved and the enzymes used in DNA replication?

Structure of DNA

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research DNA sequencing.

Based on your research, complete the following discussions:

  • DNA sequencing has become a valuable tool in many areas of science, including forensic medicine and biological research. In relation to this, answer the following questions.
    • Describe the steps by which DNA sequencing is performed.
    • Describe, using at least one example, of how DNA sequencing has become a valuable tool in forensic medicine and/or biological research.
  • What are the steps involved and the enzymes used in DNA replication? In your opinion, can a disorder result from the malfunction of any enzyme used during DNA replication? If yes, identify any one disorder and explain how it is caused. If no, why?
  • Since one transcription factor can control multiple genes, mutations in transcription factors can have long-reaching effects.
    • Can a disease result from a mutation in a transcription factor? If so, provide at least one example, naming the transcription factor, the mutation, and the congenital defect that arises.

Consider strategies for educating patients and families on the treatment and management of the hematologic or metabolic disorder.

Diagnosis and Management of Hematologic and Metabolic Disorders

Case Study 2:

Jimmy is a 3-year-old “picky” eater according to his mother. He refuses to eat anything but waffles for breakfast and macaroni and cheese or chicken nuggets for lunch and dinner. He will eat apples and bananas but refuses all vegetables except corn. After a normal physical examination, you obtained blood testing that revealed the hemoglobin is 11.4 mg/dl and his hematocrit is 30% (both obtained by venipuncture). The CBC revealed microcytic hypochromic RBCs.

To prepare:

•Review “Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders” and “Hematologic Disorders” in the Burns et al. text

•Review and  Analyze the patient information.

•Consider a differential diagnosis for the patient in the case study you selected. Think about the most likely diagnosis for the patient.

•Think about a treatment and management plan for the patient. Be sure to consider appropriate dosages for any recommended pharmacologic and/or non-pharmacologic treatments.

•Consider strategies for educating patients and families on the treatment and management of the hematologic or metabolic disorder.

TO COMPLETE

POST   1 TO 2 PAGES DISCUSSION PAPER ON :

1.An explanation of the differential diagnosis for the patient in the case study you selected.

2. Explain which is the most likely diagnosis for the patient and why.

3. Include an explanation of unique characteristics of the disorder you identified as the primary diagnosis.

4. Then, explain a treatment and management plan for the patient, including appropriate dosages for any recommended treatments.

5. Finally, explain strategies for educating patients and families on the treatment and management of the hematologic or metabolic disorder.

Discuss the changes taking place in long-term care reimbursement system in order to provide better reimbursement options both to consumers and providers.

Working on the same two facilities that you identified in W3 Assignment 2, prepare a 8- to 10-page report in a Microsoft Word document including the following:

  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of the administration in each department of your chosen facilities.
  • Identify and list the sources of financing available to consumers for the various programs provided by your chosen facilities. Identify the key public and private sources of reimbursement available. Also discuss the role played by managed care and its impact on long-term care reimbursement.
  • Describe the various government and private resources available that assist in developing and maintaining quality improvement programs in your chosen facilities. Describe the ways in which quality and cost are controlled in your chosen facilities. Also discuss the ethical aspect of access to care in the facilities, including rationing.

Based on your observations and learning from the two facilities, discuss the changes brought in the long-term care system to make it reach full status as a competition-driven system. You may include the following points in your discussion:

  • Discuss the changes made in the control mechanisms (external and internal) in order to control the management, financing, and quality in the long-term care systems.
  • Discuss the changes taking place in long-term care reimbursement system in order to provide better reimbursement options both to consumers and providers.
  • Discuss the changes made in the efforts of providers to accommodate changing magnitude of the day-to-day needs of long-term care consumers.

Support your responses with examples.
