Discussion: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Family Settings Versus Individual
                           Settings
Whether used with individuals or families, the goal of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is to modify client behavior. Although CBT for families is similar to CBT for individuals, there are significant differences in their applications. As you develop treatment plans, it is important that you recognize these differences and how they may impact your therapeutic approach with families. For this Discussion, as you compare the use of CBT for families and individuals, consider challenges of applying this therapeutic approach to your own client families.
                                                                       To prepare:
· Review the media, Johnson Family Session 3, in this week’s Learning Resources
and consider the insights provided on CBT in family therapy.
· Reflect on your practicum experiences with CBT in family and individual settings.

                                          Group Processes
Group therapy is an effective treatment option for a wide range of disorders and is much more cost-efficient than individual therapy. As a result, many insurance companies are showing preference for group therapy over individual therapy. This has led to more therapists including group therapy in their practices, making it very likely that you will facilitate group therapy in the future. To successfully develop groups and apply this therapeutic approach, it is essential for you to have an understanding of group processes and formation.
This week, as you examine group processes and stages of formation, you explore curative factors of groups and strategies for managing intragroup conflict. You also assess progress for a client family receiving psychotherapy and develop progress and privileged psychotherapy notes for the family.

Assignment: Group Processes and Stages of Formation
In your role, you must understand group processes and stages of formation, as this will help you develop groups and determine an individual’s appropriateness for group therapy. Whether you are at the beginning stages of group formation or facilitating a session for a developed group, it is important to consider factors that may influence individual client progress.
For this Assignment, as you examine the video Group Therapy: A Live Demonstration in this week’s Learning Resources, consider the group’s processes, stages of formation, and other factors that might impact the effectiveness of group therapy for clients.
                                                                                To prepare:
· Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide
on group processes.
· View the media, Group Therapy: A Live Demonstration, and consider the group
dynamics. (THE VIDEO TRANSCRIPT IS ATTACHED TO THIS ASSIGNMENT)

                                               The Assignment
In 3-page paper, address the following:
· Explain the group’s processes and stage of formation.
· Explain curative factors that occurred in the group. Include how these factors
might impact client progress.
· Explain intragroup conflict that occurred and recommend strategies for

Then, address in your Practicum Journal the following:
· Using the Group Therapy Progress Note in this week’s Learning Resources, document the family session. (ALSO SEE ATTACHED Group Therapy Progress Note)
· Describe each client (without violating HIPAA regulations) and identify any pertinent history or medical information, including prescribed medications.
· Using the DSM-5, explain and justify your diagnosis for each client.
· Explain whether solution-focused or cognitive behavioral therapy would be more effective with this family. Include expected outcomes based on these therapeutic approaches.
· Explain any legal and/or ethical implications related to counseling each client.
· Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

Discussion: Using Improvement Science Models to Promote Quality and Safety
…while all changes do not lead to improvement, all improvement requires change.

—United States Agency for International Development

Improvement science models bring together research and evidence-based practice to identify the most effective ways to promote quality and safety in health care. As a central tenet of quality improvement, attention must be paid to the processes that contribute to outcomes.
In this Discussion, you examine quality improvement models and evaluate how they could be applied to address specific issues within health care organizations.
To prepare:
Review the improvement models presented in the Learning Resources.
Evaluate each of the models and select two on which to focus for this Discussion.
Consider how each of the two models could be utilized in a health care organization to promote quality and safety. Think about the following:
How does the model bring together research and evidence-based practice to facilitate quality improvement?
How does the model contribute to a culture of quality and safety?
How does it address changes in process?
Reflect on the quality improvement issue and the health care setting that you are addressing for your Course Project. Of the two models that you have selected, determine which one you, as a nurse leader-manager, would use to address this issue. Also consider how this would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for quality and safety.

Post your analysis of how the two improvement models that you selected could foster a culture of quality and patient safety and facilitate changes in process that promote positive outcomes. Explain how you would use one of these models to address the quality improvement issue in the organization that you have selected for your Course Project, and how doing so would relate to one or more of the IOM’s six aims for improving quality and safety.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.
Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:
Offer additional strategies for using your colleague’s selected model to address the IOM’s six aims for quality.
Share insights for engaging frontline staff using your colleague’s selected improvement model.
Compare the steps in the improvement model that you selected with your colleague’s.
Suggest an alternative model for your colleague to utilize in his or her identified health care organization.
