Question 5 (Multiple Choice Worth 2 points)
(02.02 HC)  When a cell has to endure lasting changes in its environment that require it to actively transport more molecules than normal through the cell membrane,  what effect will this have on the mitochondria of the cell? The cell will need
fewer mitochondria since the transport proteins will also create ATP.
more mitochondria to meet the increased energy demand.
more mitochondria to repair damage to the ATP molecules.
fewer mitochondria since there will be fewer molecules left in the cell.
Question 6 (Multiple Choice Worth 2 points)
(02.01 HC) While looking at a cell under a microscope, a scientist is able to see a biological molecule. This molecule is a nucleic acid with a ladder structure and contains the nitrogenous bases adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine. Based on this information, what conclusion can the scientist draw regarding this nucleic acid?
The nucleic acid is RNA and would be found in the cell’s nucleus.
The nucleic acid is RNA and would be found in the cytoplasm.
The nucleic acid is DNA and would be found in the cytoplasm.
The nucleic acid is DNA and would be found in the cell’s nucleus.
Question 7 (Multiple Choice Worth 2 points)
(02.02 LC)  Which of the following is true of modern cell theory?
As technology improves so will our understanding of cells.
Multi-celled organisms are the focus of most modern discoveries.
Early cell theory has turned out to be incorrect.
Scientists have learned all they can about cells at this point.
Question 8 (Multiple Choice Worth 2 points)
(02.03 MC)  All eukaryotic cells have a cytoskeleton, including plant cells, which have cell walls as well. What does the cytoskeleton in a plant cell do that the cell wall cannot?
It acts as a framework inside the endoplasmic reticulum and keeps it from collapsing.
It helps keep the organelles in place and directs their movement as needed.
It provides anchoring places for the cell cytoplasm and helps…

THE BIOLOGY OF CANCER
Short Answer: Please be concise with your answers and as specific as possible.
1. Genes involved in cell cycle activity/survival are mutated to contribute to the development of cancer. Name the two categories of genes related to cell division that are mutated and how mutations affect their function and lead to cancer.
2. How can active transport activity by cells contribute to cancer?
3. How is it that changes in membrane fluidity can lead to tumor development?
4.What type of standard treatment should be used for metastatic adenocarcinoma? Explain your response.
5. What type of secondary/alternative treatment strategy should be used for treatment against hemangioma? Explain your response.
6. Assume that two individuals (A and B) develop the same type of cancer. Both individuals are given the best treatment found to be effective against cancer. Individual A responds well to treatment, while individual B does not. Using what you have learned, provide a specific type of cancer and an explanation for why there was a difference in response to treatment.
7. Name a type of virus that causes cancer and explain how it works. Include the type of cancer it causes in your response.
8. Genetic instability is the accumulation of DNA mutations, especially in cancer cells. How is genetic instability prevented in healthy cells?
9. Why does it make sense that the majority of cancers are non-hereditary?
10. What genetic profiling method do you think is best in identifying genes related to cancer? Include an explanation of why this method is better than other methods.
11. Which cancer screening method is best? Explain the type of cancer(s) it detects and why it is better than other methods.

A 03: Mendelian Genetics Name:Normally, in humans, brown eyes are dominant to blue.a) If two blue-eyed people have children, what percentage would you expect to have brown eyes?b) A child has blue eyes and his parents have brown eyes. What is the genotype of each parent?c) If a brown-eyed woman whose mother had blue eyes and whose father had brown eyes marries a blue-eyed man, what would you expect the phenotypes of their children to be? Can you figure out the genotype of the woman’s brown eyed father? In peas, green pods are dominant over yellow. What phenotypic ratio would you expect in the offspring from a cross between a heterozygous green pod plant and a plant with yellow pods?Caucasian humans have a gene which determines the curliness of hair. Individuals with straight hair are homozygous for the straight allele while those with curly hair are homozygous for the curly allele. Heterozygotes have wavy hair.If two wavy haired people mate, what phenotypes and genotypes would you expect among their offspring? If ALL of the many children of another couple have wavy hair, what would the most likely genotypes of the parents be?If a person with blood type AB marries someone with type O, what would be the possible genotypes and phenotypes of their children?A woman has blood type A. She marries a type B man. Their four children are: AB, AB, A, and A. Husband # 1 dies, and she marries Husband #2. They have two type A children. Then she gets divorced and marries Husband #3, who is type O. Their four children are all type A. What are the possible genotypes of all individuals?Woman:Husband #1: All four children from 1st marriage?: Husband #2:Both children from 2nd marriage?Husband #3:All four children from 3rd marriage? Show me a family tree for the first family in question 5, and two Punnett squares you used to figure out the genotypes.

This is a study to analyze the effectiveness of the cognitive-behavior therapy on patients’ with mild depression

BIOLOGY – RESEARCH DESIGN

This is what I want to do with a t-test. The data needs to be made up. I can put my references in and if you have any, then go ahead and add them. Charts would be nice if possible. Here is what I wrote for the Introduction. I also did the cover page. I can format everything too. This is a study to analyze the effectiveness of the cognitive-behavior therapy on patients’ with mild depression. Twenty patients, all with mild depression, were exposed to the cognitive-behavior therapy for a period of 3 months. At the conclusion of the study, changes in self-concept were measured for each patient to see if there was a positive effect from the therapy. A self-concept scale was used and the patients rated their perception of themselves on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest). The patients rated themselves at the beginning of the experiment, and then again after they received the cognitive-behavior therapy.
Individual therapy involves meeting with a therapist one-on-one to help a person become more aware and conscious of their issues through a process of individual exploration and deep listening. Cognitive-behavior therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that aims to influence dysfunctional emotions, behaviors and cognitions through a goal-oriented, systematic procedure
