Through a review of the literature, legislation, news reports, and also speaking with colleagues, you have noticed that there has been an increase in the national awareness of prescription opioid-related issues including addiction, incarceration, overdosing, and death. The federal, state, and local governments have become involved in developing policies, and legislation that more tightly regulate the opioid prescription practices of providers. However, the senior leaders of the Regional Hospital have noticed that there has not been recent public commentary on sustainable treatment options or the adverse effects opioids have on unborn fetuses, or what the long-term health effects are on “addiction children”.
Because your facility is not a licensed opioid addiction facility, your providers have referred patients, pregnant or otherwise who abuse opioids, and suffer from opioid addiction to third-party providers, costing your organization a potential source of revenue.
Assignment
Your assignment is to pursue a course of action that will enable the Regional Hospital to begin offering opioid addiction services by January 31, 2020. The senior managers have met to begin formulating plans for adding an opioid addiction medical capability to the services that the Regional Hospital provides.

1. Throughout the paper, discuss how the 3 domains of development (physical,
cognitive & psychosocial), interact, and how events in at one stage of development
might influence outcomes at later stages.
a. For instance, a paper might describe a child who is born with low birth weight
(physical development in infancy). The paper may then continue to note that
because the parents were aware of the risks of LBW, they took steps to manage
those risks—for instance, perhaps they became highly engaged with the child;
holding him frequently, talking to him, and later reading and playing with the
child (social development in infancy & early childhood). The paper may then
discuss how this social interaction helped the child to develop a larger

For the term paper, you will be expected to write a review paper (5-8 pages) either about a human disease with genetic origins or covering a recent advance in the field of genetics. Specific topics will be chosen in consultation with the instructor. The focus of the paper should be one of the following:
1) The genetic analyses that led to the discovery of the disease gene.
2) The use of genetics to further investigate/understand a disease gene after it was identified (especially those using genetics in other organisms as model systems).
