Pipeline Outreach

Pipeline Outreach

Question descriptionDirections
For this Assignment, please consider the following scenario: The Dean of your nursing program has come to you with idea for the development of a “pipeline program” in order to increase nursing students from underserved, or underrepresented populations, such as minorities, low income, and women. The Dean has asked you to explore options and strategies for outreach and recruitment programs that would benefit potential students that may not have a full understanding of the benefits of a career in nursing. You will need to write a 3-page paper outlining the type of pipeline program you have selected for development. Please include who your target audience will be, the length of your program, teaching strategies that would apply to meet the needs of the diversity of your student population, and the influences that could increase minority students into healthcare careers. You must support your assignment with four peer-reviewed scholarly sources.
A pipeline program may include job shadowing program that can take place in the local hospital. The length of the pipeline program is a week, but keep in mind that this is a program once developed that could be utilized for many years to come by all healthcare community providers. Job shadowing, how would you structure job shadowing so that there is content with an effective teaching plan, versus just having a potential student “follow someone around”? Would you need to consider access to your program? How will you make the experiences valuable to your potential nursing student? How can a pipeline program help reduce health disparities through social determinants? Please consider how you would recruit students into your selected program and who you would select? Would you need to seek funding? You may reach out to your community health leaders such as acute-care hospitals, and community health clinics as a collaborative effort in developing a pipeline program.
Please be sure to address:
The type of pipeline program you have selected
Who your target audience will be
The length of your program
Three or more teaching strategies that consider the social determinates to learning
Four influences that could increase minority students into healthcare careers
Three to four recruitment measures
“Provides indepth details of selected Pipeline Program to be developed including description of target audience and length of program and provides four peer reviewed scholarly sources”
” Provides description of at least three or more teaching strategies that could meet the needs of the diverse student population
“Providesdescription of four influences that could increase minority students into healthcare careers”
Provides description of 3-4 recruitment measures

Reflections on Applications of Evidence Based Practice in a Clinical Setting, health and medicine homework help

Question descriptionGo to a place that provides direct or indirect patient care. You do not need to work at the facility; you just need access to it. Observe what institutional policies and protocols relating to your clinical topic are in place and how the staff and personnel implement the policies and procedures.
Address the following points in your journal:

  1. What specific policies and procedures related to the research topic you have been developing throughout the semester were implemented at the clinical facility?
  2. Did you observe any barriers to compliance with policies and procedures relating to your clinical topic? If so, what are some specific steps that would improve compliance that you have found in the nursing literature? (Provide at least 2 scholarly articles from nursing journals published within the last 3 – 5 years to support your suggestions for improvement).
  3. Discuss at least 2 areas that would directly benefit patients and improve patient care from the implementation of evidenced based policies and protocols.
  4. What interdisciplinary team members are needed in the implementation of EBP in relation to your topic?
  5. As a BSN prepared nurse, reflect on your role in the implementation of EBP that would include policies and protocols relating to your topic?

Submit your findings in a 1-2 page journal entry. Include in your journal a reflection of what you have learned about the nursing research process and EBP in the development of your clinical topic during the term. Discuss how what you have learned will shape your clinical practice in the future.

Ethical Position
An ethical position about the problem of clinical placement in our nursing programs today is that although in some facilities it has been difficult placing students. Many facilities depending on their location may find it difficult placing students requiring educators to seek other options for providing education. Some facilities may require that students drive a distance to obtain necessary clinical assignments as needed. It is important for clinical assignments to reflect the area of study, so that the theory relates to their clinical environment. As stated by Bishol, Ohlsson, Engstrom, Johansson, & Gustafsson, (2013) , it is essential that the clinical environment meets the demands concerning a good learning environment so that the students feel that learning is valuable and follows a progression. If a facility is unable to provide students with various experiences, other teaching strategies should be developed. For example simulation is a great strategy which can be utilized to provide education on nursing skills, communication, team work, critical thinking skills, and leadership skills. As stated by Gates, Parr, & Hughen, (2011), patient simulation has the ability to standardize the types of patients and disease processes encountered by students, ensuring that they have similar experiences which can be adjusted accordingly. Simulation provides an alternative to some clinical situations, but does not replace real patient care, which hopefully can be obtained as necessary for student skills and development. As stated by Bishol, Ohlsson, Engstrom, Johansson, & Gustafsson, (2013), in order to achieve a good learning environment with each clinical placement with involvement from nursing staff, and educators in order to provide academic and practical learning and skills.

LAVA Initial post
The biggest ethical issue I face with students in the clinical setting is unsafe health care practices and working conditions. Some of the nurses in clinical settings do not possess the ethical views that I want students to have toward patient care. I spend a lot of time trying to calm down students who have witnessed things that go totally against what is taught in nursing school. It is very important for the nursing profession to be grounded in ethical values. Ethics is part of everything a nurse does. It is embedded in everything we do everyday. Sometimes nurses may be confused about what to do or their hands are tied and are unable to do something (Debedrosian, 2015) and the nurses is stressed over this conflict. Working with students in clinical settings requires the nurse educator to educate the student on these issues. Every place I have ever taken students ethical issues regarding patient care is present. A lot of post conferencing after clinical is spent discussing these issues. Clinical learning is a significant part of nursing education. The way an instructor treats a student in the clinical environment definitely impacts that student’s learning (Jamshidi, Molazem, Furkhondeh, Torabizadeh & Majid, 2016). However, I think how personnel and nurses treat the student also impacts their ability to learn. I use what we experience in these settings as an opportunity to teach the students. These issues they will face when they become nurses aren’t addressed in class. I see this as my opportunity to instill in them what it really means to be a nurse and advocate for the patient. I also realize the behavior I exhibit in the clinical setting sets a standard for my students, not only how I treat the patient but also how I handle difficult personnel because they will be faced with this someday.
