Discussion: Literature Searches

An important step in the EBP process is reviewing the current body of literature to better understand the subject or topic in which you are interested. By conducting a review of the literature, you are building foundational knowledge about the topic; later, you can use this background to build new insights. Developing a strong grasp of a topic can only be garnered by taking the time to thoroughly search for relevant information and resources.
For this Discussion, you will practice searching the literature to find evidence on a specific topic.
To prepare:

  • Choose a simple search term(s) relating to a topic of your PICOT question.
  • Review the information on the evidence hierarchy discussed in Chapter 2 of the course text, in the article, “Facilitating Access to Pre-Processed Research Evidence in Public Health,” and in the multimedia presentation “Hierarchy of Evidence Pyramid,” found in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Review the information on the Walden Library’s website, “Levels of evidence.” Take a few minutes to explore the different types of databases available for each level of evidence and focus on the meaning of filtered and non-filtered resources.
  • Conduct a literature search in the Walden Library on your selected topic using the databases that you reviewed. Use at least one database for each of the three levels of filtered information and at least one unfiltered database. Record the number of hits that you find at each level of the hierarchy of evidence.
  • Select one article from the results at each level of the hierarchy. Compare the articles based on the quality and depth of information. What would be the value of each resource if you were determining an evidence-based practice?

BY DAY 3

Post a summary of your search. Describe what topic you selected, the search term(s) that you used, and the number of results found at each level of the hierarchy. Compare the types of information found in the articles from different levels and the value of the information from each level. Highlight a useful tip that you could share with your colleagues about conducting an effective literature search.

Application of Smoking Cessation on Adolescents

Application of Smoking Cessation on Adolescents

Question description
Smoking Cessation: The concept of health risk behaviors as it relates to unhealthy lifestyles such as smoking cigarettes is one of the important issue nationwide. As nurses, we have to promote disease prevention and health promotion. Using studies such as this concept analysis about ways to help adolescents/young adults quit smoking in our practice, will benefit in preventing many diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease, lung cancer, asthma, throat cancer and ultimately save thousands of lives.
“There have been a few questions about the paper so just to clarify, what makes this a mini-concept analysis is that you only need one case example of the concept instead of multiple examples- no need for borderline, related, contrary or illegitimate cases. You will just write about a model case which should contain the attributes, antecedents and consequences of the concept. This case example can be adapted from the related articles or can be from your own experience/observation or created by you to describe how the concept “looks” in practice.
This topic must have to support with following primary articles given below: …along with others relevant articles. please find the attached files for details.(total articles at lease 5 and above and must include given below primary articles – all articles must> 2008 and above… not older than 2008)

Write a paper (1,750 to 2,000 words) that describes how borrowed theory can be applied to the identified problem

Question description
PURPOSE:
It is important to understand how borrowed theory can help you in your everyday environment as a nurse. In the previous assignment, you identified a practical problem that emerged from the evidence in the extant literature or professional practice, and you explored how middle-range theory could be applied to solve the problem. In this assignment, you will explore and apply borrowed theory to solve the specific problem that you identified previously, and you will synthesize the applications of the middle-range theory and the borrowed theory into the most appropriate solution to the problem.
DIRECTIONS:
Consider the problem that you described in the previous assignments and the instructor feedback about those assignments.
Write a paper (1,750 to 2,000 words) that describes how borrowed theory can be applied to the identified problem. The paper should include the following:

  1. A brief summary of the problem including the potential middle-range theory that could be applied.
  2. A description of a borrowed theory that could be applied to the problem. Is this borrowed theory appropriate to your identified problem?
  3. A brief history of the borrowed theory’s origins.
  4. A discussion of how the borrowed theory has been previously applied.
  5. A discussion of the application of the borrowed theory to the identified problem. How would your practice change by incorporating this theory?
  6. A discussion of how application of both the borrowed theory and the middle-range theory can be integrated to create the most appropriate solution to the identified problem.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
