DEFINE KEY TERMS IN INFORMATICS, HEALTHCARE INFORMATICS, AND NURSING INFORMATICS

DEFINE KEY TERMS IN INFORMATICS, HEALTHCARE INFORMATICS, AND NURSING INFORMATICS.

Impressions of Nursing Informatics

Based on your readings this week, how has your impression of informatics, especially nursing informatics, changed?

Nursing informatics is a science that integrates nursing knowledge with technology in order to enhance clinical practice and to improve health care delivery for our patients. For our first discussion topic, we are going to discuss your impressions of nursing informatics.  The course outcomes for week one are:

CO 1: Define key terms in informatics, healthcare informatics, and nursing informatics.
CO 2: Recognize the importance of synthesizing nursing science with computer, information, and cognitive sciences.

Nursing informatics combines many technological and personal components.  Please reflect, based on your readings this week, how your impression of informatics, especially nursing informatics, have changed over time.  Do you remember when you were you first introduced to the concept of nursing informatics?  Did you believe nursing informatics was here to stay?

Please remember to include evidence based research to support your posts, and, use the APA 6th edition format to cite and reference from the literature

Research Participants

Create a quick tutorial that could be used for nursing graduate students to inform them of the guidelines and procedures for protecting research participants.

Include the following information in the tutorial:

  • Legal and ethical issues relevant to nursing research
  • IRB guidelines
  • Procedures of protection for all participants
  • Special considerations for at-risk populations

Create a15-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® Presentation explaining the guidelines and procedures for protecting research participants. Ensure all information is complete and concise.

List major points in the slides. Include detailed explanations in the speak

IMPACT OF NURSING INFORMATICS ON PRACTICE

IMPACT OF NURSING INFORMATICS ON PRACTICE

Impact of Nursing Informatics on Practice
In today’s technology-driven, fast-paced world, health care professionals are faced daily with increasing amounts of information, technology, and data that require a wide-range of skills. In an effort to cope with these increasing demands, information management technologies are being employed to improve access to a larger volume of information and to enhance the flow of information. These technologies have changed the way nurses receive, send, and apply information on medications, procedures, medical knowledge, patient data, and interventions.
For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources presented this week and consider your nursing career. Have you seen any events, actions, or other phenomena you would classify as nursing informatics? If you have not experienced a nursing informatics phenomenon, imagine such an experience and, then, answer the following questions:
• Briefly describe one of these phenomena.
• Would you say that the impact of this nursing informatics phenomenon has been mostly positive or mostly negative on practicing nurses, health consumers, or the nursing profession (select one group)? Why?
Be sure to include citations from your primary source articles in your Discussion, and provide the APA reference at the bottom of your response. Support your ideas or those of others with references from the professional nursing literature.

DISCUSS HOW YOU COULD INCORPORATE THESE GOALS/OBJECTIVES INTO YOUR DAY-TO-DAY NURSING PRACTICE

DISCUSS HOW YOU COULD INCORPORATE THESE GOALS/OBJECTIVES INTO YOUR DAY-TO-DAY NURSING PRACTICE.

There are many factors that affect chronic illness—chronic pain, stigma, social isolation, altered mobility, or fatigue. Utilizing your learning from your readings and the South University Online Library resources, respond to the following questions:

  • Based on the research, which of these factors have the greatest impact on a patient? Why? Contrast at least two ways the factors would affect a twelve-year-old with the way they would affect a seventy-five-year-old.
  • Consider the twelve-year-old and the seventy-five-year-old have a chronic illness. How does the chronically ill patient’s illness trajectory influence the plan of care?
  • Review Healthypeople.gov website. Discuss how you feel these goals will impact the health of the nation. Briefly discuss how you could incorporate these goals/objectives into your day-to-day nursing practice.
