Metaphysics

There are certain big questions that philosophers have been puzzling over for centuries. Amazingly, many people ask these same questions in daily life. Choose one of the following six branches of philosophy below. Reflect on the central questions as related to the branch you chose. Write an APA-formatted essay of 2-3 pages explaining the chosen branch and describing a time in your life when you have asked similar questions. Discuss the specific circumstances that brought you to your conclusions.  Outside sources may be used but are not required for this assignment as the material is largely reflective in nature.  Select one of the following branches of philosophy and answer the following questions for your submission:
1. Metaphysics:
· What is real?
· Is the physical world more or less real than the spiritual or psychological world?
· Is there such a thing as a soul? If so, how does it survive outside of a physical body?
· Do all people have free will, or are their lives determined by fate?
2. Epistemology:
· How is anything known?
· What is the basis for knowledge? Is it innate reason, experience, or something else?
· Is all knowledge subjective, or are there some universal truths?
· What is the relationship between faith and reason?
· What can artificial intelligence teach people about knowledge?
· What are the limits of human understanding?
3. Ethics:
· What is the “right thing to do”?
· What does it mean to be a “good person”?
· Does virtue lead to happiness?
· Do the ends justify the means, or is a virtuous action virtuous in and of itself?
· How does living in a society affect morality?
· Is morality culturally based or individually based, or is there a universal morality?
4. Aesthetics:
· What is beautiful?
· Is beauty truly in the eye of the beholder, or are there some things that all cultures find beautiful?
· What is the purpose of art?
· How can a piece of art be successful or valuable? Does beauty matter?
5. Political philosophy:
· What is the best kind of government?
· How much power should the government have?
· What kind of people should be in power?
· How involved should the common citizen be in government?
6. Social philosophy:
· How should humans behave in a society?
· Do people give up certain rights when they choose to live in a society?
· How do social values affect individual beliefs? Do people behave differently in a crowd than they would individually?
· How does society affect language and other types of communication?
Make sure you cite your sources appropriately within your paper, and list them in APA format on your Reference page. about an ethical issue and respond to the scenario: Minimum of 350 words with references. No intro required.
There are many ethical problems with this scenario; identify as many of these as you can. Once you have described what the professional did wrong, provide suggestions for better ways to handle this situation.
In the profession of an Industrial Organization (I/O) psychologist, discuss an ethical issue you are likely to encounter. Some suggested considerations are confidentiality, dual or conflicting relationships, payment, advertising of services, and competence. Then discuss what actions you could take to prevent or successfully navigate the issue.

The Developmental Theory

Journaling

Assignment: Journaling
A familiarity with seminal developmental theories is important in your role as a developmental psychology professional. As you have learned this week, evolutionary theory explains the adaptive nature of behavior to ensure human survival and development. By understanding the key concepts of this theory, you can more easily recognize when this theory can be applied to understand certain behaviors and processes of development and the kinds of research that would be conducted to support that application.
Suppose, for example, you wanted to explore a contemporary research theme such as the relationship between empathy and adolescent civic engagement. Can evolutionary theory help explain how empathy contributes to civic engagement as an adaptive behavior? You have likely surmised that evolutionary theory cannot be used to adequately explain all elements and processes of human behavior and development.
When you have a strong grasp of the basic tenets, strengths, and weaknesses of key developmental theories, you can make an informed decision as to which theory or theories best apply in understanding a particular set of behaviors. By keeping a journal of sorts, you can document the characteristics of each theory as you learn about it. Your journaling will be a useful reference for you long after you complete this course. The Developmental Theory Template provides a matrix where you can record what you have learned about each theory.
For this Assignment, you will explore key concepts found in evolutionary theory and begin your journaling of this week’s theory.
To prepare
· Review Chapter 2 of the Newman and Newman course text and consider evolutionary theory and its key concepts.
· Review the Developmental Theory Template and consider what you might include related to evolutionary theory.
To complete
Begin populating the Developmental Theory Template related to this week’s theory—evolutionary theory. As you begin populating your template, consider the following:
1. Identify who or what contributed to the development of the theory. Were there key researchers or seminal research that led to the theory?
2. Record whether the theory emphasizes nature (biology), nurture (environment), or both.
3. Identify whether the theory emphasizes cognitive, physical, or social-emotional development (or a combination of constructs).
4. List specific ages or stages of development identified in the theory, or note that the theory marks development as continuous.
5. List the primary characteristics or features of the theory (its key tenets and concepts). Be sure to include if a particular period of life is emphasized.
6. List the noteworthy strengths and weaknesses of the theory.
7. (Optional) Include any notes that you find helpful in understanding and applying the theory, such as potential contemporary themes or fields of research in which the theory could be applied.

Research and Critique a Qualitative Study

Week 4 – Assignment

Research and Critique a Qualitative Study

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, be sure to have read all the required resources for the week.
Locate a peer-reviewed qualitative research study in the Ashford University Library on the topic you chose in Week One for your Final Research Proposal. You may choose to use a qualitative study that was included in the literature review you used in the Week One assignment by searching the reference list for qualitative research studies on the topic. It is also acceptable to utilize a qualitative research study on your topic that was not included in your literature review.
Once you have located an appropriate qualitative study, identify the specific qualitative research design used. Summarize the main points of the study including information on the research question, sampling strategy, research design, data analysis method(s), findings, and conclusion(s). Evaluate the published qualitative research study focusing on and identifying the researcher’s paradigm or worldview and any evidence of reflexivity described in the report. Explain whether or not potential biases were adequately addressed by the researchers. Describe how the researchers applied ethical principles in the research study.
