Throughout the course, you will be asked to participate in the discussion forums each week. You’ll notice that each week there is a DQ1 and a DQ2. You will need to respond to DQ1 by Wednesday of each week and DQ2 by Friday of each week. For these, I am looking for a substantive post, which is at least 2 good paragraphs. There is no minimum word count. Make sure that the first post in the thread is your response to the main DQ. Make sure you answer all components of the DQ.

You will also need to have at least 4 replies to your classmates which (including the main responses to DQ1 and DQ2) would give you a total of at least 6 posts per week for the discussion forum. Your replies should be at least a short paragraph and should add new information or insight to the topic. You should post on three separate days during the week! Sometimes I post extra questions to liven up the discussion and you can reply to these which will also count towards your participation.

Assignment: Interpretation of Common Diagnostic Labs in Pediatric Primary Care

Nurse practitioners routinely order labs for a variety of reasons. Some labs are recommended as part of a certain wellness check. Some labs are tested at birth and repeated at regular intervals. Many labs are ordered to rule in or rule out a diagnosis or just to add to an objective data base along with physical examination, vital signs, image studies, etc. Some of the labs can be done at the point of care (POC) such as an Accu-Check®. Most all labs require a venous blood sample but may require different additives that are in the collection tube. Other samples include arterial blood, urine, sputum, spinal fluid, or exudate.

You will find the “Unit 7 Assignment Template” that you will use to complete this Assignment. It is organized to include information about a common lab test that you will be completing in pediatric primary care.

Please fill in the requested information.

How would you evaluate the outcomes?

Evaluation of Outcomes

As you translate evidence into practice, it is essential to consider how you will evaluate the outcomes. As introduced in Week 8, you are likely to encounter barriers as you integrate research findings into practice. Using a framework for evaluation can assist in minimizing those barriers.

As a nurse engaged in advanced practice, it is now time to take your practicum project to the next level—evaluating the outcomes you identified for the Week 9 Discussion and then developing new practice guidelines.

To prepare:

  • The course text, Translation of Evidence into      Nursing and Health Care Practice, provides a list of questions that should      be considered when planning for evaluation. See page 239 for this list of      questions.
  • Review the Learning Resources focusing on the      various evaluation frameworks presented. Select a framework and determine      how you would evaluate the outcomes you identified in the Week 9      Discussion (see week 9 discussion in the file area).
  • Based on the possible results of your      evaluation, envision new practice guidelines you would develop.
  • What new standards of care might this lead to?

By tomorrow Wednesday 10/30/18 at 12 pm, write a minimum of 550 words essays in APA format with at least 3 references from the list of REQUIRED READINGS (see attached files) below. Include the headers as numbered below:

Post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following:

1) In the first line of your posting, state the outcomes you are addressing (those you initially identified in the Week 9 Discussion [see week 9 discussion in the file area]).

2) How would you evaluate the outcomes? Support your response with evidence from the literature.

3) What new practice guidelines would you create based on your evaluation of those outcomes?

4) Discuss any new standards of care that would be appropriate based on the new practice guidelines.
