CASE STUDY #1 SYNOPSIS

According to the attached article “The Experts: What Should Be Done to Fix the Predicted U.S. Doctor Shortage?” (Links to an external site.) Published in the Wall Street Journal on June 20, 2013, What, if anything, should be done to alleviate the predicted doctor shortage in the U.S.? The Wall Street Journal put this question to The Experts, an exclusive group of industry, academic and other thought leaders who engage in in-depth online discussions of topics from the print Report.

CASE STUDY #1 DISCUSSION 1

  1. Is there a shortage of physicians overall, or only in key areas (both geographically and by specialty)?
  2. What are the key barriers to increasing the number of physicians (consider primary care and specialty physicians)?
  3. What policies might be used to address these issues?
  4. What can hospitals do to recruit and retain physicians? Consider recruitment tactics that are not misguiding (for example avoid tactics such as – new construction, new vision)

  6. What impact does international medical programs have on the physician shortage?

consider a potential problem (HEART DISEASE) that you would like to investigate through nursing research

Hi, are you able to complete the assignment below by tonight at 8:00 pm? Thanks

Assignment 3: Quantitative Annotated Bibliography

In this week’s discussion question you were asked to consider a potential problem (HEART DISEASE) that you would like to investigate through nursing research. For this assignment you will review current research from South’s Online Library and provide a critical evaluation on that research through an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a brief summary and analysis of the journal article reviewed. For more information on annotated bibliographies please visit Purdue’s OWL: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/

A total of four annotated bibliographiesare to be submitted (not to exceed one page each). The articles must come from nursing scholarly literature and may not be older than 5 years since publication. Please note that the articles must be research based and reflect a quantitative methodology (review our reading assignments). Web pages, magazines, textbooks, and other books are not acceptable.

Each annotation must address the following critical elements:

  • Explanation of the main purpose and scope of the cited work
  • Brief description of the research conducted
  • Value and significance of the work (e.g., study’s findings, scope of the research project) as a contribution to the subject under consideration
  • Possible shortcomings or bias in the work
  • Conclusions or observations reached by the author
  • Summary as to why this research lends evidence to support the potential problem identified specific to your role option.

Explain each sampling technique discussed in the “Visual Learner: Statistics” in your own words, and give examples of when each technique would be appropriate.

  1.   Random Sampling:  When an individual is selected randomly to be part of a   survey.       Ex. After our patients are seen by their provider, one of the patient is asked to fill out a rate your experience form.

2.   Stratified Sampling:  Based on different characteristics a given population is divided into smaller groups.      Ex. A population divided into ethnic groups when trying to find out how many are in college.

        3.   Systematic Sampling: It is based on selecting samples on a system interval with a chosen area to start.    Ex. Selecting every 7th patients leaving the clinic

        4.   Cluster Sampling: A group of young people divided into sections and randomly selecting an area to surveyed. Ex. At church we made four groups to discuss a topic, but choosing one group to be surveyed.

    5.   Convenience Sampling: Selecting a group of people that you know, in order for the results to be collected easily    Ex. Surveying, friends, family or co-workers.
