Part I

  • Write an essay discussing the following:
  • The role of the Joint Commission in accrediting medical facilities
  • Which facilities can be accredited?
  • What are the goals of the Commission?
  • How do existing Joint Commission guidelines impact facilities that are not accredited by the Commission?
  • What does it mean to a facility to be accredited by the Joint Commission?
  • Is it mandatory for organizations to be accredited by the Joint Commission? If not, what impact does not having such accreditation mean in terms of reimbursement?

Part II

  • Create a memorandum where:
  • You are the administrator of the health information department for a medium-sized facility. You have just been informed by the compliance officer that the Joint Commission will be visiting your facility and will be focusing on your department.
  • Begin the memorandum by including information you believe will be important for your personnel to know to prepare for the visit.
  • Then, anticipate possible questions that the Commission might have for you in terms of compliance.
  • How will you and your department respond to these questions? How will you manage any negative findings during the visit?
  • Finally, discuss how current noncompliance findings can be avoided in the future in this memorandum.

  • Complete both part of the Assignment as follows:
  • Part I should cover 4–5 pages excluding the title page and reference page
  • Part II should cover 3 pages excluding the title page and reference page
  • Use the Joint Commission website as one source and at least two other sources for your topic — a minimum of three references total.

I have 4 questions to be answered. This does not require any writing format. all 4 questions can be combined into 3 pages, and any sources used should be cited. This is a nursing program, but the class is healthcare finance and ethics so answers should be geared towards healthcare.
1.Debate the efficacies of public versus private-based quality initiatives. What roles do each play in the quality of U.S. health care? How would the elimination of one aspect affect the other?
2. After reading the Kaiser Family Foundation summary on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, state why or why not you believe the act should remain in law, or which pieces should be reversed. Then describe two pieces of the act that you were unaware was part of the act and how that may affect you as a citizen.
3. What are the eligibility requirements and coverage of Medicaid for the categories of low-income adults, pregnant women, and the aging/blind/disabled in the state where you live?. (Use Georgia) Do you consider the eligibility requirements reasonable or restrictive? Do you consider the coverage reasonable or liberal? What are the benefits and drawbacks to keeping these populations insured through Medicaid? Consider both direct and indirect factors.
4. Review the CMS.gov 30-Day Mortality and Readmission Data website. Review at least two local hospitals (Any can be used) and see how they compare to state and national benchmarks. How and why may a consumer or a health care professional use this data to make decision about their next hospitalization? Will reporting this data have an impact on hospitals bottom line in addition to financial penalties from CMS? Give at least two examples of how this data may be used and what type of impact if may have if at all on the hospitals.

Assignment description and instructions
A nursing phenomenon of interest (POI) can be defined as any factor that influences health status and is relevant to nursing. These phenomena relate to all the different aspects of human behavior and functioning; the phenomena can relate to an individual patient, the family unit, the community, or an entire population. The student should consider their own area of expertise and practice when selecting a POI; the selected phenomena should come from an observed practice “problem” that has importance to the student.
Within this assignment you will identify a POI that has significance to your area of practice. You will explain why you think this POI is significant- this section of the paper should be supported with peer reviewed evidence from the literature available on the subject. The evidence should be current-no older than 5-7 years at most.
Next, you will discuss your basic philosophic approach to your life and work. Please refer to the Keynote and Resources provided earlier in this Unit for further details on what type of information will be expected in this section of the assignment. Please provide discussion detailing how your philosophic viewpoint impacts how you view the chosen POI and how it impacts the way you search for the “truth” about this issue.
Finally, you will discuss the opposing philosophical viewpoint as it relates to your practice and your POI. If your viewpoint is primarily Analytical, you will discuss the merits of Continental philosophy; if your primary viewpoint is Continental, you will discuss the merits of an Analytical viewpoint.
