Analyze and describe whether gender-bender missions still exist

Contemporary Context of Gender

The feminist view of gender argues against biological determinism and the claim that gender is socially constructed. You have discussed the factors that influence the distinct masculine and feminine roles and gender typing. You will now have the opportunity to share your views and support them with research-based materials.
In this discussion, evaluate a case study and analyze your own gender development. Share factors and influences in your own personal development as well as new information gleaned from research. Demonstrate your grasp of relevant terms and theories by utilizing them in this assignment content.
In the preparation for the analysis paper, complete the following:

  • Evaluate the following case study from The Baby Boomer’s Handbook for Women.Case Study: Darlene’s StoryThese political times greatly impacted my life and personality. Boomer women were demanding equal rights as they discarded their girdles and garter belts and burned their bras. It was during this era when the civil rights legislation brought new opportunities for women. We were attending graduate school and working at well-paying careers. We had demonstrated the ability to juggle home, children, and careers.
It was also during this time when many of us began our gender-bender missions. We were challenging the stereotypical image of the 1950s. I, myself, entered the military in the 1970s, which was during a time when women were not totally accepted, even though we played an important role in the Vietnam era. After the military, I entered law enforcement and again pushed the gender role stigma. At the time of my law enforcement career, there were only five women in a department of three hundred men. Later, the department grew to five hundred men and still had only seven women. As women boomers, we were accessing many nontraditional roles and employment opportunities that had previously been considered “male only.” There were also men entering the nursing field during this era. Unfortunately, they too were subjected to the same type of stereotypical comments. I would ask myself, “Why can’t men be receptionists, hairdressers, and nurses, or why can’t women work as construction crews?” (Eastman, 2008).

  • In a 2- to 3-page analysis paper in a Microsoft Word document, address the following:
    • Compare the contemporary context and theories of gender, gender development, and gender identity with the case study viewpoint.
    • Analyze and describe whether gender-bender missions still exist. Identify the areas where you see that the lines of gender roles are being blurred or are no longer relevant.
    • Support your response with research references to gender theories.

Cite all sources using APA format on a separate page and ensure that the document is free of plagiarism.

Examine the change in amphetamine use and abuse in the U.S. from the 1950s to the present

Aaliyah continues to struggle with balancing her work hours and her schoolwork. She has been drinking coffee to help her stay awake, but it is no longer working. She has an exam coming up and needs to stay up to study.

Aaliyah decides to take an amphetamine to stay awake to study for the exam. She promises herself that she will only take it this one time for the exam. The drug allows her to stay awake and alert while she is studying for the exam. She also feels that she is learning the material better as a result of the amphetamine. When the grades are in, Aaliyah receives an A on her work.
As the semester continues, Aaliyah turns to amphetamines more and more often to help her stay awake to complete her schoolwork. Soon, Aaliyah finds that one pill no longer keeps her awake as long as she needs.
She starts taking more than one pill at a time. She knows that taking amphetamines so often is not good for her health, and she finds she experiences an increase in headaches when she takes them, but she continues to take them because they are helping her be successful in school and at work.
Based on the case study, prepare a paper that addresses the following:

  • Examine the change in amphetamine use and abuse in the U.S. from the 1950s to the present.
  • Explain to which schedule amphetamines belong and why they are on the Schedule of Controlled Substances.
  • Explain the effects Aaliyah might be experiencing as a result of her regular amphetamine use. Be sure to include:
    • Acute effects, chronic effects, and withdrawal
    • Effects on physiology (brain and body), behavior, mood, and toxicity
  • Give at least three indications from the case study suggesting there may be a problem with Aaliyah’s substance use. That is, describe at least three likely behaviors that Aaliyah is likely to exhibit if she is misusing amphetamines.

Determine whether Aaliyah has a substance use disorder. Include a discussion of DSM criteria. Use the template to help you make the assessment.

Action Plan to Address Drunk Driving

M4 3 pm

2: Action Plan to Address Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is one of the largest social problems related to alcohol use. Driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol is involved in 40–45% of all fatal traffic accidents. As a result, legislators, educators, and law enforcement officers are continually attempting to find ways to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol.
Select one of the following age groups: teens (13–17 years), college-age (18–25 years), adults (26–60 years), or seniors (61 years and up).
For your selected age group, develop a plan to reduce driving under the influence. The plan could include (but not be limited to) educational, legislative, and community support; and social advertising. Present at least three action points in your plan. Be sure to include:

  • The format of the plan
  • Who will deliver the information and how
  • Specific tactics used to target the selected group
  • Methods used to measure the success of the plan

Be sure to include an introduction and summary for your plan. Support your recommendations using authoritative sources.
Write a 2–3-page plan in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

What have you learned from this class that will enable you to be more effective in the future in completing your Proposal and other dissertation milestones?

Module 8 DQ 1 & Module 8 DQ 2

Module 8 DQ 1
What have you learned from this class that will enable you to be more effective in the future in completing your Proposal and other dissertation milestones? What challenges do you see? How will you overcome these challenges? Use this information and the Milestone Guide to identify the milestones you need to accomplish during your next dissertation class?
If you have successfully completed the first two dissertation milestones in this course, have you followed up with your chair to assure that he/she has initiated the D-10 form (formalizing your dissertation committee including your chair, methodologist, and content expert) and the D-20 form indicating your prospectus is approved?
Module 8 DQ 2
Finding time to complete a dissertation can be a major challenge particularly with the iterative review/revision process that is involved in preparing a research proposal and/or dissertation manuscript. Why is this iterative review/revision process important to the preparation of a research proposal and/or dissertation manuscript? What will you do to block out periods of time to work on iterations of your proposal and/or dissertation? How will you get support from others to enable you to do work during these times? What will you do to maintain your energy, passion, and commitment?
