B) Will online streaming video overtake the other motion-medias? Why or why not?
C) How can broadcast television change to remain competitive and can you cite any examples of programming changes that they have made to do so already? How does “free content” in television play into this?

Disorders of the Sensory Systems

Week 3 – Discussion
1212 unread replies.1212 replies.
Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.
Disorders of the Sensory SystemsRead Chapters 6 and 7 of your text. Then, select a disorder of the sensory system to discuss. You must choose a different disorder than your peers. If you would like to focus on a disorder that is not on the list, please get prior approval from your instructor.
Select a disorder of the sensory system from this list

  • blindsight is my selection

Conduct research and locate two peer-reviewed articles to support your statements. In your post

  • Explain the symptoms of the disorder.
  • Describe how the diagnosis is made (e.g., findings on brain imaging, laboratory testing, etc.).
  • Discuss the neurobiological basis for the disorder (e.g., CNS structures involved and neurotransmitters).
  • Describe the functional deficits associated with the disorder including how these may impact the patient’s ability to carry out activities of daily living (e.g., occupational, social, recreational).
  • Cite your sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center .

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.
Your response must include a description of the current treatment options, both pharmaceutical (including mechanism of action for any drug therapies) and behavioral (based on the functional deficits associated with the disorder) that are available for the disorder your peer described. You must use a minimum of two peer-reviewed sources in your response.
Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Examine the causes of psychopathology using either biopsychosocial or the diathesis-stress models

Week 1a

Perceptions and Causes of Psychopathology
Prepare a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper in which you discuss the causes of psychopathology.
Address the following:

  • Provide a brief overview of how culture is a factor in determining the expression of psychopathology. Discuss at least one culture-bound psychological syndrome.
  • Examine the causes of psychopathology using either biopsychosocial or the diathesis-stress models. In order to receive full credit for this objective you will need to demonstrate how each element of the model causes or exacerbates psychological disorders. For example, how do the elements of biology, psychology, and sociology (biopsychosocial model) interact to create and/or make psychological disorders worse? Addressing each of these in regards to how they independently create and/or make the psychological disorder worse does not fulfill this requirement. The diathesis-stress model is, in general, easier to explain for most disorders you will encounter for this course. When using the diathesis-stress model you must include a discussion relative to resilience in order to receive full credit for this objective.
  • Explain the changes in society’s perception of psychopathology as a function of a historical period. Include an example of a recent psychological diagnosis that social pressure has modified/deleted.

Cite at least one separate peer-reviewed source for each of the above objectives.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Identify and analyze whether there is any biological evidence for differences in cognitive abilities due to gender

Discussion Assignment

Part 1
The reason girls lack interest in mathematics may be due to culturally communicated messages (Eccles, 2007). Social cultural factors and conformity to gender expectations play a key role.
The socialization of gender roles and the use of a hidden gender-biased curriculum lead to inequitable education for boys and girls (Eccles, 2007).
As the quality of instruction and the curriculum affects children’s learning, so does the value that our society, educators, and families place on boys’ or girls’ learning or education (Kahle, 2004; Liu, 2006). Girls are likely to perform as well as boys when encouraged to succeed (Eccles, 1987).
In your exploration of these concepts, respond to the following:

  • Identify and analyze whether there is any biological evidence for differences in cognitive abilities due to gender. Explain with evidence from research on whether there is a difference in our biological brain development.
  • Describe at least one new fact about male and female gender cognitive differences, if any.
  • Describe whether there are any spatial performance differences between males and females. Analyze and justify whether video games improve spatial skills.
  • Identify the differences that are evident in the types of activities that males and females participate in. From this week’s readings and lectures, explain whether there is a disproportionate number of boys gifted in mathematics than girls and why.

Part 2
You have begun to explore the impact of social class, ethnicity, and gender on identity and the functions of roles in social organization. In addition, you will consider family life, work, violence, sexuality, and the possibilities for social change. In this discussion, you will explore sexual harassment concerns in the workplace for both men and women.
Review the case story of twenty-five-year-old Lois Jenson, who endured sexual harassment in the iron mines of Minnesota and later filed and won the first class-action sexual harassment lawsuit, Jenson v. Eveleth Mines.
You can review the story by accessing the following resource:

In your exploration of these concepts, respond to the following:

  • Reflect on the case study of Jenson. What is your opinion of the case? What do you agree with, and on what do you differ?
  • Research and explain three types of sexual harassment.
  • Analyze and explain whether the aspect of sex role spillover creates stereotyping and a sexualized atmosphere.
  • Review and analyze the attached sample sexual harassment policy. Identify specific elements that are designed to protect individuals and suggest additional items for consideration. Support your reasoning with references.

Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research.
