History of the Nurse Practitioner and legislation
The aim with this assessment is for the student to get a comprehensive knowledge of the profession’s background that will be useful for them in their transition into their new role as nurse practitioner.
The further aim is to gain an in depth knowledge on legislation relevant for their future role as a nurse practitioner.
My area of practice is emergency care (both adults and children).
You will, in addition to undertake reading of the provided course material, have to search the literature and web for information about:
•    The history of the professional role of Nurse Practitioner from both state, national and international perspectives (particularly the USA and the UK)
•    Legislation, beneficial schemes and policies, which are relevant for them in their role and function as nurse practitioner. Australia focused please.
After searching, reading and reflecting on your findings, write an essay that describes how the role of the nurse practitioner has developed over time, including significant occurrences and any particular persons of importance. Please refer to the Australian college of nurse practitioners website which will give you a superficial breakdown of the NP history. The most important person to write about is Loretta Ford.
In the essay you should also analyse and evaluate different laws, rules and policies and how these have and will affect the role of nurse practitioner
