According to the National Center on Sexual Behaviour of Youth (2004), “about 1% of forcible rapes and 7% of juvenile arrests for sexual offenses” are adolescent girls between the ages of 13 and 17 (p. 1). This has become an alarming statistic for law enforcement because there is also a body of literature that says that girls should be treated differently than boys in this crime.
