Client System Role Play Video

Project: Client System Role Play Video

Now that you have completed your role play script, it is time to record your role play. Practicing your social work skills through role plays is an essential part of a social work education. Role plays assist you in identifying the areas where you are strong, as well as the areas where you might need improvement. They also allow you to develop the social work instincts necessary to effectively work with clients.

Role Play Video (3–5 minutes):

Your video role play, which should be based on the script you created in Week 5, should include:

  • A demonstration of the interaction between you as the social worker and the client system you selected that reflects the appropriate step of the GIM and social work practice behaviors, based on the presenting concerns of that client system.
  • A depiction of at least two techniques you selected for implementing the appropriate practice skills for working with your client system.

For this ungraded assignment, record a 2- to 3-minute video introducing yourself to your colleagues. Your video should include:

    • Your name • Your geographic location • A brief description of your educational accomplishments (i.e.,

degrees and schools attended) • A brief description of your employment history • A description of the topic area in which you might specialize

upon graduation (i.e., substance abuse, child welfare, mental health, etc)

Upload your video using the Mashup Tool in the classroom. For instructions on how to upload your video, refer to the Kaltura Media Uploader area on the course navigation menu Submit your video and transcript by Day 3 of Week 1.

Respond by Day 6 to at least two colleagues with a thoughtful question or suggestion.

Note to Students: While this introduction video is an ungraded assignment that will not be calculated into your final grade, it is a required assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to gain familiarity with technology platforms that share media and to learn more about your colleagues. Note to Students: Technology and Students with Disabilities In this course, students in your peer group will likely create videos and/or PowerPoint presentations and, if so, you will be asked to review them. Our goal is to make those materials accessible to everyone, regardless of disability. If you are unable to access those materials, it is the responsibility of students with disabilities to request appropriate accommodations from the Office of Disability Services at your University within the first week of the course start date.

Discussion 2 Generalist Intervention Model Post by Day 4 a brief description of your population of interest and explain how the Generalist Intervention Model might assist you in working with this population given what you have read so far. Support your posts and responses with specific references to the

Resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references. Read a selection of your colleagues’ posts. Respond by Day 6 to at least two colleagues who selected a different population from the one you selected and explain some of the challenges that might exist based on the diversity of that population. Return to this Discussion to read the responses to your initial post. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

    Looking Ahead

Week 10 Final Project: Client System Role Play Reflection and Analysis Paper You should begin reviewing the guidelines for the Final Project that is due in Week 10. Your Final Project consists of the following components:

    • A role play script you develop using the template provided that describes the demographics of a client system you select, characteristics of each member of that system, and the presenting concerns. The script should also map your interaction with the client system in a social work session, based on these details and the social work techniques you select. A draft of your script is due in Week 5. The final draft must be included as an appendix in your Reflection and Analysis Paper due in Week 10.

    • A video recording of the session that you capture between the

client system and you as the social worker, based on the script you created in Week 5. The client system you select can be an individual, a family, a couple, a group of colleagues, or members of a community. The video also must show a demonstration of the two social work techniques you would use in working with this client system. Note that since you will need to be the social worker in the video, you may need to recruit a friend or colleague to record the session. Your video is due in Week 9, in order to allow everyone the opportunity to view the videos in preparation for the reflection and analysis component of the Final Project. Note that you also must include a transcript of your role play video.

    • A reflection/analysis paper describing insights you gained and

challenges you experienced while planning and executing your

role play session. Your paper should also include an explanation of the techniques you used and why you used them. Finally, the paper should include a critique of a colleague’s video, offering examples of what your colleague did well and areas where your colleague could improve. This paper is due in Week 10.

For more information regarding your Final Project, please refer to the Final Project Overview document located in this week’s Learning Resources. It is recommended that you download this document for easy reference as you work on this project throughout the course.
