Read Chapter 3 in the course text prior to completing this discussion. Before setting up an exercise program for an individual, it is important that you complete a health history, explain the Informed Consent form, and assess contraindications of exercise of the client. These items should be completed by a qualified health care professional, such as you. As you learned in Week One, individuals within a high risk category with known disease should be seen by a physician prior to exercise.

For this discussion, assume you are working with an individual who has a moderate risk of experiencing health-related problems during exercise. Review the sample Informed Consent (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. form and then complete the following:

  • Explain the purpose of the Informed Consent form.
  • Expound on the contents included in an Informed Consent form.
  • Define contraindication and assess what contraindications exist for exercise by reviewing Box 3.5 in the course text.

Your initial contribution should be 250 to 300 words in length. Your research and claims must be supported by your course text and a minimum of one additional scholarly source. Use proper APA formatting for in-text citations and references as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Guided Response: Respond to two classmates by Day 7. Your post should be at least 100 words in length. In one of your responses to your classmates, explain an absolute contraindication to exercise. In the other response, explain a relative contraindication to exercise. In each of your responses, provide an example and explain to your classmate what it means. For example, you may inform your classmate that one of the absolute contraindications for exercise is suspected or known dissecting aneurysm. A dissecting aneurysm is an artery with a weak wall that has ripped. Support each response with one scholarly source formatted in APA style.
