Evaluate and differentiate between an epistemological, a metaphysical and an ethical question 3. Understand and apply the criteria of correct philosophical reasoning

The purpose of this assignment is to give you practice particularly in:

1. Identify and apply a variety of ethical theory

2. Evaluate and differentiate between an epistemological, a metaphysical and an ethical question

3. Understand and apply the criteria of correct philosophical reasoning

4. Understand the difference between a rhetorically good argument and a rationally good argument.

5. Identify, reconstruct and evaluation arguments posed by philosophers

Outside of this course, this will help you understand and apply good reasoning, spot problems in another person’s side of a debate (or spot them in your own) and know how to rephrase a person’s stance in better, more easy to understand ways. Also, in a more practical way, this also lets you see the faults and how to better defend the common-place view that ethics are relative.

Task:

Cultural Differences Argument

In class and in the readings, we covered what the different kinds of relativism are and some of the various arguments for moral relativism. In this assignment you need to:

1. Explain that argument

2. Explain at least one of the problems the argument has

3. Say how serious you think the problem is and why you think that

Each of these should take you around a paragraph to answer. Each of them are worth 5pts. Since this is worth 20pts, this is worth 5% of your total grade.

Example:

This is a bare outline of a possible paper, there is no explanations or anything like that in it:

1. One of the arguments for moral relativity is the Cultural Differences Argument.

– Explanation of the Cultural Differences Argument.

2. One of the problems for this argument is that it is not valid.

– Examples of its invalidity

3. I think that this is not a damning objection.

– The reason for this is that I am a poor scientist/philosopher and will hold my stance no matter what and for any reason.

In this version, I would be able to do the entire paper in 3 paragraphs. If you go that route, make it clear to me where the individual parts are.

Submission:

To submit this assignment, I only accept .pdf, .doc, .odt, and .docx. I do not accept .pages. You can find where to submit in the upper right of this screen. As for all assignments in this class, the standard is Times New Roman, 12pt font, double spaced, 2-3 pages (that is, at least a few words onto the second page to the bottom of the third).

Writing a cover letter in a job application is a way to tell your story even before the interview starts. A great cover letter can really open doors. It needs to grab the readers attention, give some concrete examples, and make you sound unique. You want your reader to get the mental picture of your successes. That occurs when you understand your personal brand and are able to articulate it into words.

Task: Draft a 1 page professional cover letter for the job posting you have selected to work with this semester. Tailor the cover letter directly to the person listed in the posting.

At the end of the page please copy and paste the description of the job once again.

Here are the notes that I commonly gave students last semester:

For the most part I felt that individuals needs to show more of their brand and credibility. Here are my notes as someone who reads through a ton of cover letters when I am on hiring committees:

– They want to know you before they spend the time interviewing you. How can you write in such a way that I can actually visualize and see you go through work experience?

– Watch vague statements. The most common things I hear are “I have communication skills, leadership skills and I am organized.” – I don’t know what the means to you? If a boss said you need to improve your communication then you would walk away wondering what the meant so someone reading a cover letter that doesn’t know you also wants to know.

– People will go back to cover letters that they remember. I need a catchy detail that hooks me into remembering. Cut through the clutter.

– Don’t rehash the resume. The resume are your qualifications and competencies. I can tell where you go to school and study. The letter of interest should capture the energy of you as an individual. Think how am I energetic, upbeat and excited for this job – how do I write that?

Anyways this is all to help you. As people studying interviewing start to think about how people in business read things. They read fast. They connect with things that are unexpected or new to them. They read fast again! I can’t stress that enough. You should visually make your written pages “pretty” to the eye. I may spend extra time if it looks nice.

Identify specific knowledge or skills you would need to obtain to effectively treat this client, and provide a plan on how you will do so.

The sign of an effective clinician is the ability to identify the criteria that distinguish the diagnosis from any other possibility (otherwise known as a differential diagnosis). An ambiguous clinical diagnosis can lead to a faulty course of treatment and hurt the client more than it helps. In this Assignment, using the DSM-5 and all of the skills you have acquired to date, you assess an actual case client named L who is presenting certain psychosocial problems (which would be diagnosed using Z codes).

This is a culmination of learning from all the weeks covered so far.

To prepare: Use a differential diagnosis process and analysis of the Mental Status Exam in “The Case of L” to determine if the case meets the criteria for a clinical diagnosis.

By Day 7

Submit a 5- to 7 page paper in which you:

  • Provide the full DSM-5 diagnosis. Remember, a full diagnosis should include the name of the disorder, ICD-10-CM code, specifiers, severity, and the Z codes (other conditions that may need clinical attention).
  • Explain the full diagnosis, matching the symptoms of the case to the criteria for any diagnoses used.
  • Identify 2–3 of the close differentials that you considered for the case and have ruled out. Concisely explain why these conditions were considered but eliminated.
  • Identify the assessments you recommend to validate treatment. Explain the rationale behind choosing the assessment instruments to support, clarify, or track treatment progress for the diagnosis.
  • Explain your recommendations for initial resources and treatment. Use scholarly resources to support your evidence-based treatment recommendations.
  • Explain how you took cultural factors and diversity into account when making the assessment and recommending interventions.
  • Identify client strengths, and explain how you would utilize strengths throughout treatment.
  • Identify specific knowledge or skills you would need to obtain to effectively treat this client, and provide a plan on how you will do so.

Describe the social work role in which you are working and explain how you might come across the individual you selected in the context of your own work.

Throughout this course, you will view media of combat veterans discussing their experiences with the military, their combat experiences, and their reactions to trauma, crisis, and stress throughout their military careers.

For the Final Project, select one of the combat veterans you see in the media provided in your resources (VIDEO ATTACHED). Develop an individual or family treatment or support plan with recommendations that you might use if you were counseling, supporting, or otherwise assisting this individual with traumatic reactions and supporting his or her family.

Your paper length should be 8–10 pages. In your paper, you should do the following:

  • Describe the social work role in which you are working and explain how you might come across the individual you selected in the context of your own work.
  • Identify one trauma or combat reaction the veteran is experiencing or has experienced.
  • Explain the symptoms and stressors commonly experienced by military personnel associated with this traumatic reaction.
  • Describe how you might support this individual’s family; explain ways in which they may be affected by the trauma reaction (include stressors upon spouses, significant others, and children).
  • Describe the intervention or the type of support that you would implement, and explain why you consider this intervention or support appropriate or effective.
  • Explain the details to the intervention or support plan.
  • Describe any potential challenges you might experience implementing this intervention or support plan or engaging the combat veteran or family related to this intervention or plan.
  • Describe how you might address those challenges.
  • Describe recommendations you might make for the combat veteran or the family.
  • Justify your intervention or support plan using the current literature.

Select at least five journal articles, citing evidence-based information for your plan.
