In a word document, please answer the following questions in a complete essay with details and examples from your work this term. Take your time and focus on critical thinking. This final requires you to write a short essay and use examples as necessary to support your point. Please include your name, class title, and the date in the top left corner of the word document.

Format: Double Space, use 12pt font, and 1 inch margins (there will be a major point deduction if this component is not used).

5. Now, consider the final researched argument project. How do you believe you did as a writer conveying your argument and supporting that argument with research? What would you like to improve, how, and why?

6. Consider the entire semester, characterize your learning. What do you believe you learned during the semester about yourself as a writer, researcher, thinker and student? What would you tell others who plan to take an online writing course?

TheSociety began in South Australia due to concern over the horses that worked on the tramsdown King William Street . A small group of concerned animal lovers felt the horses wereunfairly subjected to extreme heat and exhaustive work and triumphed in obtaining betterconditions for the animals .The RSPCA in South Australia evolved from this small group of dedicated , caring people*and while the shelters , staff and facilities have changed , the ethos driving the society is verymuch the same .As the years go by , the issue of money is a constant concern . Total annual operating costsin South Australia alone are now in the vicinity of $5 , 000, 000 and for a not-for – profit , nongovernment organisation this figure is extremely daunting .The RSPCA are the only organisation in Australia that polices and enforces the AnimalWelfare Act . Policing the Act involves nine full-time inspectors who respond to each of the4, 000 reports of animal cruelty we receive throughout the state every year . In a case wherea pet owner or farmer is required to appear before a court , the RSPCA funds the lawyers ,court fees and other costs required for the case to be heard . Often the mistreated animal isinjured or very sick and the RSPCA then also pays the bill for their recovery .As well as the inspectors , two rescue officers are employed on the road providing 24 – hour – a -day , seven-day – a – week medical assistance to stray and injured animals . Again , the RSPCAcovers all vehicle , phone and medical costs .The animals that are brought into the shelter each week have their own , unique and oftenhorrific story . Some are strays , some have been dumped , some have been surrendered byowners , and some have been so badly abused they have been seized by the InspectorsWhile many of the animals come through the doors sick , injured , diseased and generallymiserable , the RSPCA’s aim is for them to leave healthy , happy and with new owners .People looking for a new pet can come to the shelters , where fully vaccinated , microchippedand neutered dogs , cats , guinea pigs and rabbits are for sale for a much lower price thananimals available from pet stores and breeders . Owners get the added extra joy of knowingthey are giving an animal a second chance .The Adoptapet program was created as a joint initiative between RSPCA , Bendigo Bank andVisa and has been a huge success for all involvedThe website gives people a chance to view animals ready to be adopted currently at theshelters throughout Australia .Finding the right pet for your lifestyle and housing conditions can be extremely challengingand it takes a great deal of research time and patience to make the correct decision . Thereare numerous things to take into consideration and the Adoptapet website makes this choicea whole lot easier .Page 4 of 9| DOCUMENT NAME : BSBADV509 – Assessment 1Version 1 .1

Metacognition stands for thinking about thinking and becoming aware of one own thinking and the higher order of thinking skills. The term metacognition can be broken down into two words “meta” meaning beyond or on top of. There are generally two components of metacognition knowledge cognition and regulation of cognition. Metacognition is the ability to use prior knowledge in planning different strategies in using learning skills, problem-solving skills, and reflect and evaluate a student’s need. It also helps student’s individual with certain goals in comprehending text and solving math problems.   Some example teachers can use in implementing metacognition into the lesson are “planning how to approach a learning task, using appropriate skills and strategies to solve a problem, monitoring one’s own comprehension of text, self-assessing and self-correcting in response to the self-assessment, evaluating progress toward the completion of a task, and becoming aware of distracting stimuli”(“TEAL Center Fact Sheet No. 4: Metacognitive Processes,” 2017). Metacognition gives students the opportunity in recognizing what they do not understand during a lesson, provide time to reflect on an assignment, increasing student cognitive skills and the ability to track a student ‘s learning goal.

Cognitive dissonance means a situation involving conflict of attitudes, beliefs or behaviors. It produces a feeling of mental discomfort and “alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance” (Mcleod, 2007b).  For example, when a student needs to take a test, but they come into the classroom late and the teacher feels they cannot take the test because they came into the class late with no late note. The student will begin to feel a certain way about the teacher and not want to attend school because the teacher believes in the rules and policy of the school. The way the process can be fixed is by the teacher letting the student take the test with no excuse pass and speak with the parent in want happened with the late arrival and if it happens again the teacher should speak with the parent. As an educator I believe in helping the student and working with the parent.

create a visual element, refer to the reading in this unit on Visual Rhetoric. Finally,  now would be a good time to review the readings from part one of this course, particularly those on integrating quotations and citing sources.

The Argumentative Research Essay Purpose:  To persuadeAudience: Diverse /  Educated adults.Length: 5-6 pages (1500 – 1800 words)Research & Documentation:  Minimum of 6 sources with MLA citations

Visual Element:  At least one visual element embedded in the essay (chart, graph, photo, etc.)Your final essay will be an argumentative research essay.  Once again I expect you to “join a conversation,” quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing from outside sources, while at the same time making your own individual contribution to the topic.  You will choose your topic from the New York Times “Room for Debate.”  Go to: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate and view the many topics available. For each topic there are multiple viewpoints. These will be a central part of the “conversation” to which you respond.  Most topics have between five and eight separate viewpoints.  Read all of them.  Then begin formulating your own argument in response.  While I don’t expect you to quote or summarize from each individual viewpoint for your topic, you should quote, paraphrase, summarize from at least three them.In addition to the articles on the Room for Debate pages, you will be required to conduct additional research to support your argument.  This research can come from any reputable source.  See “Evaluating Sources” for tips on selecting reputable, scholarly sources.Whichever topic you choose, you will eventually need to develop an argumentative thesis statement that clearly identifies your position on the topic. Remember that a thesis for an argumentative essay should be debatable and should clearly take a stand.  Refer to the readings in this section to help you create a debatable thesis statement.

To supplement your argument, you must also include at least one visual element in your essay. The visual element can be a chart, graph, photograph or illustration.  The visual should be used in such a way as to support the ideas and arguments in your essay and it should be embedded within the body of your essay (not added as an attachment or link). Identify the source of your images next to the image in a textbox or within the body of the corresponding paragraph. To help you choose or create a visual element, refer to the reading in this unit on Visual Rhetoric. Finally,  now would be a good time to review the readings from part one of this course, particularly those on integrating quotations and citing sources.  It is not enough to simply meet the research requirement by throwing in a quote here and there.  I want to see that you can integrate the ideas of others neatly into your own argument.
