Explain in detail the nonverbal elements of communication that you observe in each of the four photographs you have selected

In our work and personal lives, we need to be able to identify and analyze effective verbal and nonverbal communication in various situations. In the same way that you would analyze a work or personal life communication situation, you will be asked to create a short presentation (using media choices below) about the nonverbal communication demonstrated in a series of photographs. In addition to identifying aspects of nonverbal communication, you will also need to show how these elements can affect communication both positive and negatively. Include your observations of how nonverbal elements that you see alter the direction of communication.

  1. Select four of included photographs.
  2. Using either PowerPoint or Prezi, create a presentation that demonstrates your comprehension regarding these communication elements: Please include the following:
    1. A title slide including your name.
    2. Four slides that explain aspects of the nonverbal communication that you see depicted in the photographs. Be sure to include the photograph on the slide. Be as specific and detailed as possible in your description of body language, facial expression, physical distance (if applicable), gesture, and other aspects of nonverbal communication that you see.
  3. Using Screencast-o-matic (screencast-o-matic.com) or similar software, create a short video presentation of your PowerPoint or Prezi. Explain in detail the nonverbal elements of communication that you observe in each of the four photographs you have selected. Video should be between four and seven minutes long. This video should either be of the presentation itself or a hybrid video that includes both the presentation and an inset webcam video.
  4. Upload your video to screencast-o-matic, YouTube, or similar online video sharing site and provide a link to your video. Include your PowerPoint or Prezi with your submission

Assignment:

  1. What are the distinguishing characteristics of buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright? Find a compelling example of one of his works and characterize what make it attractive to you using the methods and vocabulary you have been developing. Study the work in more detail and see, after studying the work more fully, if you still are attracted to all of the aspects of the work. Was the work of Wright part of a new movement in architecture or was it a refinement of an already existing movement? Be specific and justify your answer.
  2. Critically analyze several works of Maxfield Parish, try to find other examples of this style of art by other artists, determine if these are instances of an existing style before Parish or they are part of a new direction and style. Describe that style and critically analyze an instance of it that is most compelling to you.
  3. Which music of the previous 100 years will be considered to be the new “classical music” several hundred years from now and why?  In what other new major directions has music gone in the last 100 years? Identify and characterize at least three direction that you believe are the most significant and given a concrete example.
  4. Considering all that you have studied and learned over the period of this course, name two or three new directions for the arts (other than music) that you believe will become the new mainstream moving forward and support your position.
  5. From this study of the arts, have you developed any new insights or found new favorite pieces of art? If so, describe them, be specific, and explain why they are now favorites. Are these modern, post-modern, or pluralistic? Explain. If you your old favorites are still the best, describe in detail (in terms of media, style, part of a movement, etc.) and what it is about those pieces that are still so compelling after considering at so much art throughout the ages.

Determine what you think is the most effective way to present information within charts and graphs.

Part 1. Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:

  • Determine what you think is the most effective way to present information within charts and graphs.

Part 2. Reply to the following post in a minimum of 100 words:

“In my experience as a visual person, I believe one of the most effective ways to present information with a chart and graph is to use color. Color draws peoples eyes naturally to where you want to tell the story. In order to tell the correct story you must know your data, as well as your audience, with some research one could build a very meaningful presentation. Once you have an understanding of the date and audience one plans to present to, build an effective chart to highlight the positive, as well as the areas that need improvement should be fairly straightforward.

The use of words is another area of importance on building charts and graphs, one does not have a lot of room on the chart or graph so one must select words that make sense and add value to the chart. Not only does the word usage provide value to the chart, those particular words can trigger the talking points of the chart. This ensures the presenter stays on topic and delivers the correct message. Overall, a well presented chart and or graph can deliver the message to the audience, and direct the team as a whole to success.” – Jennifer F.

Part 3. Respond to the following post in a minimum of 100 words:

“I haven’t had two much experience with giving presentations but I have seen some very good presentations which I feel were very effective. I think that it is important to know the audience and find information which will support the point that is trying to be made so that you can adjust the charts to use the information which would be best. I think that strategic graphs chart and graphics are also very helpful so that the audience can visually see the facts that the presenter is saying. They should be easy to read and basic so that you don’t confuse the audience or overwhelm them with information.

I think it also important that the presenter knows exactly what they are talking about and is passionate about the subject rather than just reading off information. When someone who is well educated and passionate about a subject you can tell and are more likely to be persuaded because they know what they are talking about. They should also use their research to show concrete facts and effective information which will persuade the audience. By putting in the extra effort into the presentation it will be more effective.” – Thomas P

Write a brief (75 to 150-word) literacy narrative which explores some aspect of the Four Basics (Exposure, Motivation, Practice, or Feedback) in The Writer’s Way (pp. 7-10), as it applies to your writing experiences.

Literacy Narrative and Grantham Resources. There are two parts to this assignment: a literacy narrative and a discussion of Grantham resources. A Literacy Narrative is a special kind of essay in which the writer describes his or her relationship with reading or writing. A narrative is not a person’s life story; it focuses on a single experience or event in the person’s life and shows how the event shaped the person—what he or she learned from it or how the experience helped him or her grow. For example, your literacy narrative could be about how you learned the value of writing or how the feedback of a teacher taught you to love (or hate) writing. Part I:Write a brief (75 to 150-word) literacy narrative which explores some aspect of the Four Basics (Exposure, Motivation, Practice, or Feedback) in The Writer’s Way (pp. 7-10), as it applies to your writing experiences. Your narrative should describe one event or experience related to writing and show what you learned from it or how it shaped your writing process or attitude toward writing. In your narrative, identify one or more of the Four Basics and credit (identify) The Writer’s Way as the source for the information on the four basics. You might also want to review “What is an ‘Essay’?” on pp. 3-4.Part II:It is important to know what resources you have to help you through this class. Browse the following resources, and, in 75 to 150 words, describe how you think you will be able to use two or more of these to improve your writing skills.·
