What is the author’s thesis? What is he or she arguing? What are his or her major points in the essay? Finally, what do you think is the implications of the author’s argument? Meaning, how does the author want this piece to affect readers or even society? Review the above video for guidance.

DIRECTIONS

This week, you will complete the first step towards completing your researched argument, the final essay for this course. To begin, we will complete a reading, analyze it, and begin thinking about what you can write on for this class. The final paper, due in Week 4, requires Keiser database research, APA format, and 1200-1350 words. It may seem a daunting task but step by step, week by week, you will be guided through the process and can achieve success.

Below is a list of essays that serve as the beginning point for your final essay. Now, you can change your topic later on if you need, but you are strongly recommended to stick to the topic you pick now.Begin by reviewing the following articles, which relate to many of the majors Keiser University students are pursuing. However, you do not have to select the reading that is most relevant to your major. You are free to select any of the six.

  • (General Education) Rose, M. “What college can mean to the other America” pp. 194-197
  • (Business Related Fields) Gates Jr., H.L. “Delusions of grandeur” pp. 381-384
  • (Health, Sports, Psychology) Bordo, S. “The globalization of eating disorders” pp. 639-643
  • (Criminal Justice, Homeland Security) Chua, A. “The right road to America?” pp. 335-340
  • (Information Technology) Turkle, S. “How computers change the way we think” pp. 721-727
  • (Nature and the Environment) Diamond, J. “The last Americans: Environmental collapse and the end of civilization” pp. 684-701

After you review the six articles, select one, then answer the following questions in a total of 600+ words.

  1. What is the author’s thesis? What is he or she arguing? What are his or her major points in the essay? Finally, what do you think is the implications of the author’s argument? Meaning, how does the author want this piece to affect readers or even society? Review the above video for guidance.
  2. Consider the strategy the author uses to make the argument. What rhetorical modes or strategies are being most used in this argument? Provide evidence from the text. Remember, an author may use more than one rhetorical mode!
  3. What are your initial reactions to the essay? Consider questions such as whether you agree with the author or not, who the essay benefits most from the author’s argument, your personal experiences with the issues in the essay, and what questions come to your mind as you read the article. These questions may become the topic for your major researched argumentative essay in this course.

TIP: Respond to each question in its own paragraph. Be sure to quote and cite from the reading in APA. Also, have proper APA citations and references. Click here for help. Hint: You are using a “Chapter or Article in an Edited Book.”

explain the role of music in your life story or of your interview subject’s life story. Your assignment should be written in essay format with a thesis, main points, and substantive conclusion.

Music connects people to time and place. For instance, many of you may remember a song that comforted you during a difficult time or that was playing during a happy occasion like a graduation or engagement. Despite varying tastes, the one constant across humanity is that music can play a role in times of comfort and celebration.

This week’s writing assignment asks you to consider what songs are important to you and why. Or, if you would prefer, you may interview another person and use their replies to write this essay from their point of view. You can think of this as collecting the soundtrack of someone’s life or a musical autobiography.

In 750–1,000 words, consider and explain the role of music in your life story or of your interview subject’s life story. Your assignment should be written in essay format with a thesis, main points, and substantive conclusion. Be sure to incorporate APA citations throughout the analysis, and include a reference page at the end of your analysis.

For each of the following categories, you must include at least one specific song and artist. Express the music and link it directly to an experience and the emotions you felt. Remember to link your individual experience to broaden your understanding of the impact of music at large.

In your analysis, address the following to examine music in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood:

  • What music do you associate with childhood? How did/does this music make you feel? How do your choices reflect your childhood experiences? What can you conclude about the nature of music and its impact after this reflection on your personal experience? As you discuss this time in life, include at least one specific song/artist. Explain their role in this experience.
  • What music do you associate with adolescence? Was this music a way to fit in or rebel? What can you conclude about the nature of music and its impact after this reflection on your personal experience? As you discuss this time in life, include at least one specific song/artist. Explain their role in this experience.
  • What music do you associate with comfort or inspiration in your adulthood? How do these songs help you deal with disappointment or stress? What can you conclude about the nature of music and its impact after this reflection on your personal experience? Include at least one specific song/artist for this category.

What challenges does change represent when considering the reactions of a diverse team? What are the barriers you might encounter?

Assignment 2: Cultural Communication and Reorganization

Change is inevitable, and it seems to be even more common as the world rapidly becomes globalized. You know that BANKS Industries is about to reorganize a number of departments, and your team is likely to be affected. As you prepare for this process, you start to think about how you will handle this news and communicate with your team, especially given the diverse needs of your team members.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research cultural communication and courtesies. Then, based on your communication strategy for handling change, prepare a case study that addresses the following:

  • What challenges does change represent when considering the reactions of a diverse team? What are the barriers you might encounter?
  • How will you communicate the need for change with your team, while addressing the team members’ diverse needs?
  • How does a lack of consideration for differences cause communication to fail? Provide an example.

Write an 8–10-page paper in Microsoft Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

By Week 4, Day 7, deliver your assignment to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox.
