How much did IBM spend on research, development, and engineering in the most recent year? How did this compare with the previous year?

You are a member of a civilian police review board. Search the library and the Internet for information on a case involving police misconduct or judicial misconduct or malfeasance. Use the library, news reports, and the Internet to locate information on the case you have selected.

In your discussion of the case, make sure to discuss the following:

  • – Details of the case and evaluation of ethical dilemmas involved, including all key details
  • – Details and evaluation of the code of conduct related to the case, including the ethical responsibility of the officer (including possible differences on how an officer acts off or on duty)
  • Details and evaluation of societal opinions of the case, including potential implications for the community or political figures
  • Close with a recommendation for the full review board to adopt regarding whether the individual who was involved in police misconduct should be subject to discipline. In your discussion, be sure to address the following:
    • – Implications of misconduct
    • – Recommended course of action for the officer
  • Deliverable Length: 2-4 pages in APA format with Abstract and at least 5 referencesFor a large, multinational corporation like IBM, there are many challenges in the capital budgeting process. This part of the project will use IBM’s website (http://www.ibm.com/us) to answer the following questions. From the front page, scroll all the way down and click on “About IBM”.

Click on it. You will find a lot of projects there.

In your initial response to the topic you have to answer all 4 questions.

You are expected to make your own contribution in a main topic as well as respond with value added comments to at least two of your classmates as well as to your instructor.

    1. From the site’s front page, access “IBM Research” (it changes from year to year, but it is under the “About IBM” tab at the bottom of the page). Choose three projects from the list and describe  what the projects are and what resources they require.
    2. Can any of the projects that you selected be described as research collaborations? Why?
    3. Can any of the projects that you selected be described as academic collaborations? Why?
    4. Go back to the IBM front page, find “Investor Relations” at the bottom of the page. Go to IBM’s most recent annual report. How much did IBM spend on research, development, and engineering in the most recent year? How did this compare with the previous year?

Read the academic article “The Unfavorable Economics of Measuring the Returns to Advertising” by Lewis and Rao and answer the following questions.

LINK: https://academic.oup.com/qje/article/130/4/1941/1914592

(a) What is the main finding of this study? Why is measuring the effects of advertising difficult (make sure to read and understand the discussions following equation (7))? Why is it easier to measure the effects of online advertising than the effects of traditional TV advertising? (15 points)

(b) Suppose you are a consultant who helps CPG (consumer-packaged-goods) firm run advertising experiments. You are currently working with two firms.

Firm 1 plans to run their A/B experiment on 1000 customers. From prior experiments, you expect the average value of purchases for consumers in the treatment group (receive ad) to be

$0.30, while the average value of purchases for consumers in the control group (no ad) to be

$0.20. Assume that the standard deviation of the average purchase value for both treatment and control groups is $5.00.

Firm 2’s plans to run their A/B experiment 10000 customers. Firm 2’s product is more expensive but purchased less frequently than Firm 1’s product. Coincidentally, the average value of a purchase in the treatment groups (receive ad) and control groups is the same as it is for Firm 1. However, the standard deviation of the average purchase value for both treatment and control groups is $25.00.

Which firm’s ad campaign is more likely to show a positive effect? Should either firm expect to see a significant positive effect? (10 points)

Instructions

Art Gallery: Visual Elements

For Unit III of your art gallery presentation, you will be adding descriptions of the visual elements you observe in the artworks you placed in your art gallery. The purpose of this unit assignment is to demonstrate that you can apply what you learned about visual elements to your gallery artworks.

  • Begin by reviewing your Unit II feedback and making any necessary revisions.
  • Place one Visual Elements slide directly after the artwork it describes.
  • Next, research the elements using Chapter 3 of your textbook.
  • Make sure you describe all of the visual elements from Chapter 3 using complete sentences. Questions to consider are included below:
  • You must use at least your textbook as an outside source. Be sure to follow APA format for all sources used, including the textbook. When adding your own opinion or observation, you will not need a citation as it is an original thought.
  • Please submit your full presentation thus far, which should include the previous updated segments and the segment for this unit.
  • This segment must include a minimum of five PowerPoint slides.

To access the art gallery template, an example presentation, and other PowerPoint resources, click on the “Course Resources” link in the course menu bar of Blackboard.

What techniques of delivery does the speaker use effectively (e.g., emotion, vivid language, nonverbals, humor, etc.)? Please be sure to provide examples.

TED talks are organized and highly-vetted public speeches that give normal people—people like you and me—a chance to spread their message to the world. Visit TED.com and watch several TED speakers. Note that you can sort by topic, speaker, and a host of other criteria. You can watch any TED talk you wish. If you’re looking a more concentrated list, you might also wish to visit this link, which highlights the 25 most popular TED talks of all time.

After watching a TED talk (or a few!), write a short 300-500 word (1.5-2 page) analysis of that talk. Please ensure that you cite the talk you watched in appropriate APA formatting. You should answer the following questions in your analysis:

·         What is the topic and who is the speaker?

·         How does the speaker get the audience’s attention in the introduction?

·         What are the main points of the talk? Are they easily identifiable?

·         What techniques of delivery does the speaker use effectively (e.g., emotion, vivid language, nonverbals, humor, etc.)? Please be sure to provide examples.

·         How does the speaker conclude the speech? Does it echo the themes in the introduction and “tie the knot” or does it go in a different direction?

·         Is the speech effective? Did it leave an impact on you? Tell us why or why not.

What did you learn about speech delivery after listening to this speech?
