The intervention programs are arranged including emergency hideouts, women assistance after police intervention, special victims services linked to diverse languages, etc. When looking into the problems of women facing domestic violence is regarding their living place. Safety becomes a major concern and hence many organizations. both governmental and non-profit units have come up with provisions and services for this matter.BBC News, Sydney reported on February 2, 2009, that “the first refuge for domestic violence victims has opened in Australias Northern Territory, and is designed to help vulnerable Aboriginal women.

” (Mercer, 2009).Safe Homes are shelters for women who can never hope for secure help from any others. The victims undergoing legal formalities are more prone to insecure situations. “The safe house aims to be a circuit-breaker to give sanctuary to vulnerable women in small communities where they have few places to seek help.” (Mercer, 2009).Cathy Huddleston says that this turned out to be a relief for battered women to live in safety with no fear of violence. There have been many admissions to this refuge owing to domestic violence in the aboriginal areas of Australia.

Joblessness, economic deficiencies and addictions, and at times abnormalities lead to domestic violence. It is a fact that a victim of such tortures and brutalities will obviously have physical, emotional, and psychological disturbances. Outlying anxiety of further abuse will be present in the victims that can lead to bigger complications in the future.&nbsp.

The prerequisite to getting out of the traumatic situations is a safe and peaceful existence for the victims. The Australian refuge centers ensure that all the inhabitants are safe and comfortable.

A lofty interest in this matter at the national level gave way to the establishment of Safe Homes across the country. The National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) and the University of Melbourne together have launched an organization that provides help and shade for women in need.&nbsp.

The Balfour Declaration created in 1917 stated that Britain, which at the time ruled Palestine, was in favor of creating a Jewish homeland. The term “Palestinian” is a misnomer. The land of Palestine was under the rule of foreign power since Biblical times. The Arabs living in Palestine never had a ruling government. Britain and the UN, after World War II, set aside part of Palestine to create the new State of Israel. Another misconception is Jewish families came and threw Arab families off their land.

The Jewish immigration since Herzl’s time had Jews coming to Palestine and buying land from local Arabs. After Israel declared their independence, Iran, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Jordon, and Lebanon immediately attacked the new nation. The newly formed IDF (Israel Defense Forces) beat back the attacking forces and after a year won what is today Israel, excluding the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Golan Heights. The Six-Day War and Yom Kippur War gave Israel the Sinai, Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Gaza Strip.

Through negotiations, the Sinai was returned to Egypt. The others are known as the Occupied Territories. When Israel formed their government, Jewish interests were placed first. The Holocaust had brought the cry “Never Again” to the lips of every Israel. The Arabs or “Palestinians” felt ostracized in their own country. The new language was Hebrew first, then Arab, and the English. Jews from all over the world flooded the tiny country, which is no bigger than New Jersey.

The refugees of the wars, instead of leaving for an Arab country, were placed in refugee camps. Refugee camps in the Occupied Territory are cramped apartments where hunger and poverty run wild. The Palestinians started fighting against Israel through terror attacks on civilian targets. The Mahlon School Massacre, the hijacked plane that landed in Entebbe, and the current bombings of restaurants and night clubs have outraged the Israelis and the world. Finally, the PA (Palestinian Authority) was given a chance to rule limited cities in the West Bank, but the corruption and misrule led the Israelis to take over once again.

The Gaza Strip has been given to the Palestinians, but the PA and Hamas have not managed to solve their people’s problems. Israel invaded the Gaza Strip recently due to rockets coming from the area. Hamas cannot even stop the terror. Terror has become a way of life. The lifestyle in former Palestine now is one of impossible peace. The Palestinians need to have the training to create a stable government. Israel needs to provide more support for these endeavors. Today Israel fights for security and Palestinians fight for land.

As long as these are the priorities, peace will be out of reach. It is not possible for the Israelis and Palestinians to work together in the foreseeable future.

Similar to that revolution, the Zapatista movement of today (which started in 1994 until the present time) is a hodgepodge or mishmash of several ideologies, a heterogeneous mixture of socialism, libertarianism, anarchism and communism. Its overarching policy goal is to use the power of the word to achieve its aims which are social equity like equal distribution of wealth and protection for the downtrodden poor such as farmer peasants and the working class.

In the words of Subcomandante Marcos himself, their revolutionary movement has generally abstained from the use of firepower and instead opted for democratic space by the use of the power of the media, hence the title of this wonderful book.

Their advocacy is to be heard, especially in behalf of the very poor indigenous people of Chiapas, the southernmost state in Mexico. Their original purpose is to bring attention to the widening gap between the rich and the poor. Interestingly, Subcomandante Marcos is not of Mayan ancestry but this has not prevented him from siding with the poor of Chiapas. The Zapatista Movement is called a “post-modern” revolution that uses words for weapons, including the power of the Internet.

Although little is known about the personal background of Subcomandante Marcos, it is generally believed that he is an intellectual of some sort based on his ideological beliefs.

He himself had come under severe criticism lately for becoming elitist, contrary to what he had fought against, by becoming a celebrity figure who gladly signs autographs and poses readily for a photo op. The eloquence of Marcos allowed him to bring disparate groups together to fight a common cause – capitalism and neo-liberalism. In particular, the Zapatismo is thought to be a protest against the dangers of unbridled exploitative capitalism that is now advocated through free trade agreements and continuing globalization.
