Story analysis

Read the first 10 pages the 2019 CSL Annual Report and then, focusing on the Chairman and CEOs Letter (pages 4 and 5), critically analyse the Letter from a communication perspective, principally considering how well you think it tells the CSL corporate story.
As a guide, you might like to bring into your commentary some of these points:
Did you get a good understanding of CSLs story and if not, comment on what should have been covered and information you would like to have known that would improve your understanding of the story
Did the Chairman and CEO commentary give you confidence about the companys direction and future and did they inspire you to become an investor?
Did you feel critical pieces of information were left out of the Letter?
Did the Letter give you an understanding of CSLs competitive position, risk and social issues affecting the business?
As background to the assignment you might recall from seminars the components of a company story are what a company does, its history and special characteristics, strategy, how it makes money, financial performance, operating context and outlook.
The purpose of this assignment is for you to assess how the two most important people at CSL tell the company story to shareholders. In the second assignment you have an opportunity to present your version of the story. This essay does not require acknowledgement of sources.
The following marking criteria will apply:
CRITERIA (WEIGHT %)
1. Critical comments on how well the company conveys its story in the Letter (50%)
2. Expression of the story in your own words (20%)
3. Overall quality of effort, insights, critical analysis (30%)

employee motivation

Employee motivation and stress are important areas of research for I-O psychologists. Among the key aspects that must be understood are how employee attitudes and various motivational theories and techniques relate to the overall performance of an organization. Organizations should strive to implement ways to motivate and alleviate stress on their employees to improve job satisfaction, performance, and productivity.

For this assessment, imagine you are a motivational speaker scheduled to give a keynote speech at an industry conference of I-O psychologists. Your plan is to discuss current motivational theories for the workplace, evaluate one of those theories, and apply it to an audience member who has volunteered to come up on stage. Your goal is to demonstrate to the audience how to evaluate an employee’s current workplace scenario and suggest techniques that might be used to motivate the employee based upon his or her individual characteristics.

Preparation

Choose three of the following motivational theories to research for this assessment:

Goal-setting theory.
Control theory.
Action theory (Rubicon theory).
Self-regulation.
Maslow’s need theory.
Reinforcement theory.
Vroom’s VIE theory.
Equity theory.

Write a 45 page speech that addresses the following:

Introduce yourself and the topic you are to address.
Briefly explain at the three motivational theories you researched for this assessment.
Simulate a short question-and-answer interview with a hypothetical audience member who raises his or her hand in response to your query, “Who in the audience feels unmotivated in their current job?”
Construct the information you need to make a proper decision on what motivational theory to apply to the particular situation.
Include the audience member’s job title, work responsibilities, attitude toward management and coworkers, stressors, and professional goals.
Analyze the relevant attitudes and motivations of the hypothetical employee based on the information you collected above.
Apply two motivational techniques from the literature (for example, contingent rewards, job enrichment, or feedback) in the context of the characteristics of the situation. Suggest an action plan to be considered by both the employer and employee to increase motivation. Be sure to apply research findings to support your discussion.
Discuss why these motivational techniques are appropriate choices and what the desired outcomes might be.

How does popular culture stereotype you?

Essay 1 Paper Prompt: How Does Popular Culture Stereotype You?

Question:

In this unit, we have explored various stereotypes found in popular culture. Remember, popular culture is material intended for mass consumption and exists in the mainstream. A stereotype is a widely held image that is fixed and allows for little individuality among its groups members. Write a paper exploring the way popular culture portrays a specific cultural stereotype (negative or positive) and the effects of that stereotype on you and those around you (i.e. you should have personally experienced/witnessed the effects). To do so, you must first find a specific example of that stereotype in a piece of popular culture and analyze it to provide your reader a deeper understanding of the way it exists in the mainstream today. Then you must provide a targeted, focused exploration of a few of the effects of that stereotype on the lives of actual people, on you.

You should not include research or consult outside sources. You are demonstrating your analysis skills and ability to thoughtfully reflect on your experiences.

Important: Remember, you should not spend time arguing that the stereotype is harmful or that the stereotype is not true. We, as a class, already know that stereotypes are limiting and that they do not accurately define and represent individual people. Your job is to analyze and write an organized, clear essay!

Length: 1000-1250 words (include word count at end of paper)
