Final Social Policy Analysis
Ok, so this some crazy idea that the instructor come up with to keep us focus and on track. In the document that I sent you there are three paper that I compiled on one document. The purpose of this assignment is for the me to demonstrate knowledge of policy analysis. I had to select a social problem (Part I) that I am interested in and then find a policy related to that problem. Then I had to follow the process outlined below to define the social policy and critically analyze the selected policy. This assignment will be broken down into smaller, manageable parts to both keep you on track and to offer feedback along the way (details below). The smaller parts will be revised and submitted as part of the larger product described below. The final Social Policy Analysis paper will take the following form
Part I. Defining the Social Problem
Part II. Background/Context of the Problem
Part III. Policy Analysis
Part IV. Evaluation and Conclusion (Only included in the final paper)
So, Part 1,2,3 where is smaller parts that will create the final paper

Comments: Defines the problem: You did a good job defining what physical abuse is – you might also want to use the Child Abuse & Prevention Act (CAPTA) definition as well since it is the federal definition.; Prevalence: You give an overall number of those who experience maltreatment, but what about physical abuse specifically? Also, think about breakdown by demographics (e.g., age, race, sex, gender, etc.)?; Causes/Sources: This section needs some work and you need evidence to support your claims. Consequences: You do a good job discussing micro-level consequences; however, you don’t really touch on the mezzo and macro-level consequences; Values and Self-Interest: You start this, but it needs to be more thoroughly developed. You started your paper off by touching on this (i.e., war on drugs), but expand on this for the final version of the paper.

Comments: You really did a good job on this section; however, you do not have sources to back up what you are saying. You did a great job identifying 2 policies that have been developed to address child maltreatment; however, I am confused – are you looking at child maltreatment as a whole or just specifically physical abuse? You need to think about that. Your discussion on the historical and cultural milieu is a little short – there is no mention of Henry Kempe’s article, which is critically important to child welfare or the mention of the American Humane Society initially taking responsibility for child protection. There is so much missing in this section. I also did not see any mention of any interest groups that would have shaped policy.

Comments: APA: some issues with APA on reference page; Writing: You have some organizational/clarity issues throughout (see comments in paper). You are going to have to spend some time working on revisions before your final submission. The most concerning issue, however, is the lack of sources to support your claims. Make sure you are including evidence to support your position. |

You did a good job discussing how services are delivered and whether services are available to people of all ethnic backgrounds. However, you do not discuss whether service delivery system is built on assets that already exist in the community (which they are given that families are referred to community-based services), whether the service delivery system offers client choice (see comments in benefits and services section), and whether the workers reflect the diversity of the target population (are workers as diverse as the clients they work with).
