250 words, 2 nursing references within 5 years. MUST HAVE IN TEXT CITATIONS
Choose a workplace data collected quality improvement project associated with practice guidelines and discuss its congruency with an established published guideline by a reliable database (e.g. standardize regulatory organizations, certification boards, professional organizations, etc.).
Discuss how the published reliable database guideline gathered its data (e.g. quantitative – survey; correlational research; treend analysis; exploratory research; descriptive research; experimental research and newest “observational-interventional research, etc.” in comparison to the workplace quality improvement project data collection.
Remember not to identify the health organization by name or provide guidelines with organization’s name.

Directions:
You will read an assigned article and describe the model and strategies that were used for reducing barriers and implementing evidence-based practices. Your instructor will assign each student to a group and an article that describes how a change, based on evidence-based practice, was implemented.
Read the assigned article and write a short summary (offline in word processing software), including the following topics below.
Put your name above your article summary with a short caption (so I know who to give points to)
In the first sentence, cite the source (Authors, Year) and the purpose of it. (do NOT repeat the full title and journal name since that is in the reference list) (5 points)
Type of study and level of evidence on Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt’s evidence scale. You can expect that several of these will be Level VI descriptive studies or Level VII expert opinion, unless they specifically stated another type of research. (5 points)
What model or steps were used to promote implementation of EBP change? If no model was clearly described in the article, then select one from the textbook Chapter 13 that resembled their process or could be used. (20 points)
What strategies were used or recommended to be used to enhance implementation or motivate change? (20 points)
What were some barriers to EBP implementation? (20 points)
Full reference in APA format (5 points)
SAMPLE ARTICLE SUMMARY
Model for Change (summary by Susie Quik)
In the article by Plastow (2006), the authors outlined a model for change that was used to assist Occupational Therapists (OT) in implementing evidence-based practice interventions for psychiatric patients. Although this was written for OT and it was the lowest level of evidence (VII Expert Opinion), it listed similar strategies that have been used to promote changes in the nursing. The model they used was Rosswurm & Larrabee’s Model for EBP Practice Change (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015, pp. 287-288). This model has six steps: assess need for change, locate the best evidence, critically analyze the evidence, design practice change, implement and evaluate, integrate and maintain change in practice.
The major strategies they used were as follows:
Identify all stakeholders
Assess factors that may impede
Plan appropriate interventions
Assess attitudes and readiness to change
Educate those reluctant to change
Conduct audits and give feedback
Evaluate and plan new interventions
The barriers they discussed were:
Resistance to change
Risk to patients and clients
Ease of implementing
Adaptability to individual clinical practice
Finding evidence to support the interventions

Guided Questions (1000 words)
Case study
Mrs Brown, a 78 year-old female, was admitted to the Emergency Department at 6am after waking up with severe breathlessness. Her family informed you that the patient has a history of heart failure that had been diagnosed two years ago. On admission to the Emergency Department the clinical manifestations were:
Severe dyspnoea
Respiratory rate of 24 breaths/minute
SpO2 85%, on room air
BP 170/95mmHg
Pulse rate of 120 beats/minute
Auscultation of lungs identifies bilateral basal crackles
Mrs Brown was connected to an ECG monitor that showed atrial fibrillation. A diagnosis of acute exacerbation of chronic left-sided heart failure was made.
Question 1. (500 words) (Learning outcome 1 and 5)
Explain the pathogenesis causing the clinical manifestations with which Mrs Brown presented.
Question 2. (200 words) (Learning outcomes 2, 4 and 5)
Discuss two high priority nursing strategies to manage Mrs Brown and provide evidence-based rationales for these strategies.
Question 3. (300 words) (Learning outcome 3 and 5)
Two of the drugs that were given to Mrs Brown were IV furosemide and sublingual glyceryl trinitrate.
Discuss the mechanism of action of these two drugs, and relate to the underlying pathogenesis of an acute exacerbation of chronic left-sided heart failure. And,
Describe the nursing implications (monitoring for and responding to adverse effects, and evaluating therapeutic effect) when administering these two drugs to a patient with an acute exacerbation of chronic left-sided heart failure.
Provide a reference list in APA 6th Edition style with a minimum of 6 academic references which
could include journal articles, textbooks, government websites and reports, and creditable organisational websites such as the Heart Foundation (https://www.heartfoundation.org.au/).
Concept Map (500 words)
The concept map must be computer generated.
When researching the topic, use the pathophysiology template that is on the unit vUWS site to
assist you in organising your information. The template will also assist in identifying key concepts
and their relationships.
Concept boxes should have titles with relevant content summarised within the box.
The summarised content may be in point format and size 10 font (Arial or Times New Roman) may
be used on the concept map.
Concept boxes must be linked using lines and linking words/phrases to demonstrate logical
relationships between concepts.
For conciseness, numbers may be used to replace traditional APA referencing within concept
boxes. If you use numbers, you must include a reference list in numerical order, corresponding to
your references immediately after the concept map.
Critical thinking and creativity are essential components of the concept map. The map design
needs to be visually stimulating.

Discussion: Team Building and Addressing Barriers to Planned Change
Planning and implementing change can be quite challenging, especially in a complex health care environment. No matter what kind of change is undertaken, there are likely to be some obstacles. Yet, wise leader-managers, and those with whom they work, recognize that change is necessary and revitalizing; they see that planned change can not only contribute to organizational sustainability but also promote high-quality care and positively impact patient outcomes. These leader-managers harness a larger vision and engage in forethought and analysis to minimize and address barriers to planned change.
Based on what you have learned about the change process and strategic planning, what barriers do you think may arise related to the change you are proposing through your Course Project? How would you cultivate stakeholder involvement and promote team building for your planned change?
As you think about these questions, consider the following statement: “The system will evolve based on changes in the behavior of the people in the system” (Nesse, Kutcher, Wood, & Rummans, 2010, p. 27).
Do you agree? Why or why not? How does this relate to the specifics of your strategic plan?
To prepare:
Review the information presented in the Learning Resources, including Dr. Carol Huston’s comments on addressing barriers to implementing a strategic plan change. Consider insights related to change theory, common barriers to change, and strategies for addressing these barriers that relate to the implementation of your proposed change.
Identify specific barriers you are likely to encounter with your proposed change, including resistance to change. Evaluate strategies that may be used to minimize or address these barriers.
Think about the value of stakeholder involvement in planned change, as well as the specifics of stakeholder participation in your strategic plan to champion the change. Who should be involved in strategic planning and at what point? How could they serve as change champions?
Post an explanation of strategies you would use to minimize or address barriers, including resistance to change, related to your strategic plan. Explain how you would promote stakeholder involvement for your proposed change, and encourage them to become change champions.
Read a selection of your colleagues’ responses.
Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days using one or more of the following approaches:
Provide feedback on their strategies for addressing barriers to change.
Suggest additional strategies for addressing barriers or resistance.
Offer additional insights for identifying appropriate stakeholders.
Suggest additional stakeholders or change champions to be involved.
